My only complaint was that I had no control over A/C. It wasn't turned on yet for the season"."

Overpriced, cheaply built, cramped residence, and you have to pay a lot for the laundry too. The man working at the front desk should not be allowed to work with youth and children. He clearly has anger issues and is hostile and horrid toward us.

Just moved into təməs leləm̓ (Sea Otter House)! Great so far, aside from a few minor annoyances that should’ve been considered in the design process:The big fridge right next to the entrance door makes for an awkward entryway, and the outlet behind the desk isn’t low enough to be useful without either pulling the desk far out from the wall or buying a power strip with a flat plug. And as a studio designed for one person, I really don't understand the need for a dishwasher; I personally don't own enough dishes to fill it quickly enough, nor do I think I'd have the storage space for all those dishes. I would've appreciated another cabinet instead. Also: forcing people to press two buttons in order to use the automatic doors at the entry is just plain daft, whether they be disabled or (in my case) have their hands full in the moving process. Equally daft is the door in the ground-floor study room that’s allowed to be neither an exit nor a secondary entrance… And there are two elevators, but only one can enter the parking garage where the one and only waste room for three buildings is, and as there's no way to call this specific elevator you just have to hope that you get the right one.Update: The fridge issue was resolved several months into my stay, with all studio fridges being replaced. Kind of hilarious, and I have to wonder what happened to the 'old' fridges, but nonetheless appreciated - even if the entry space still isn't ideal. There's not enough room to fit a shoe tray from Ikea, so the dirt from your messy winter boots will get everywhere. But now that winter is upon us, I'm realising that, for all UBC's green ideals, the insulation in these buildings is extremely poor. This could've been the University's first passive-house build, with thick walls and triple-glazed windows that would require very little energy input whilst remaining comfortable, yet here I am, typing this from under my duvet at 14:37 in December because I'm freezing despite having the radiator set as high as it can go. Should a university's building tech not be an example for the rest of society?

I didn't appreciate being woken up to construction down the hall from me at 8am when I am recovering from surgery.
