All the bad reviews are absolutely true. This is by far the worst union I’ve worked for. Utterly clueless shop stewards at work and equally incompetent people working at the offices. The language in the collective agreement is horrible if not non-existent on many matters. All we ever get are useless generic emails. We never even see the people in charge or the so called “leaders” of the union at our worksite. They can’t be bothered sitting in their new fancy offices. They tried once to come to the company premises and the company apparently disallowed them and they did absolutely nothing! Just tucked their tails and never came back. They are frankly inept and definitely in lockstep with the company. They are not in the member’s corners.

This union is standing by and for its members. It seems as though there may be planted misinformation right now. Take recent negative reviews with a grain of salt.Edit:Everyone in the social services sector was completely SHAFTED in the most recent contract negotiation. Our union showed it has no teeth and no interest in defending and advancing the interests of its members.Utterly useless. So disappointed that I‘m seriously considering stepping away from all my non-employer added duties that I built over the last three years to become more involved.I’d say do better, but you all are too busy congratulating yourselves to do what you should’ve and STAND FOR YOUR PEOPLE.

They give up on you before you even ask for help. This is the worst union to help its members. Nothing but horrible experiences with infighting and drama. The union will not be in your corner, and will make you feel like absolute garbage for wanting help.

By far the worse Union ever. They take forever to address employee issues and rarely find proper solutions. They allow members to obtain supervisory positions creating a situation where unionized employees are bidding for Management. They sit back and watch the arbitrary changing of seniority rankings. It's a shame that I have to give them one star to post a review.

I had 6 different staff representatives in 6 months. Severe lack of diversity in the union itself. There are no Indigenous staff reps so Indigenous people are represented by people who have no idea about Indigenous issues like neo-colonialism in the workplace. Multiple grievances were unresolved. Staff rep sold me down the river. Many members from my old job have encountered the same lack of representation. I feel bad for my fellow members who have stayed at the workplace because it has gotten worse and the union takes the money and runs. I do hope my former coworkers find another union that doesn't let the employer get away with everything.

I have worked in government for over 15 years. In that time I have seen the quality of the union fall. They are definitely not in our corner and appear to work out back door deals with the employer that members get zero say or input in. I have had losses in my pension, benefits, standard of living and overall work environment because of my union since my time working for the Province. Very disappointed. Their offices are prime, you can tell where our dues are going thats for sure.

Cannabis shops are closing left and right, and regular people are losing their jobs and potentially homes and more. WHERE IS LABOUR UNITY?! WHY DON'T YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR FELLOW LABOURERS IN CONNECTED INDUSTRIES?! WE ARE THE PEOPLE THAT PUT THE MONEY IN YOUR POCKETS! IF WE DONT BUY, YOU DON'T HAVE JOBS!

My Employment Issues were put into their Hands and instead of consulting me first, they violated my Client Confidentiality by sending the Employer notification of my Employment Issues.I was then Fired within the Month!Thank You BCGEU - NOT!

In my 5 years working for this union, I can honestly say i have not had a single positive experience. Steward turnover is very high in our component, the grievance process is handled by an incompetent group, and the newly ratified agreement has completely taken my hope away for an improvement. My $5000 in dues have gotten me nothing and both collective agreements have been paycuts. They are here to collect your money and offer as little support as possible in the meantime. In all of my employment history, dealing with the BCGEU has been the worst experience.

Sold us out during collective bargaining. They implemented a 3 strike rule where the employer can nullify our seniority. Basically, they bargained away our seniority (opposite of what a union should do). This union caters to the majority class (full-timers) and will through you under bus if you are part of the minority class (part-time, casual). Hence, if you are not part of the majority your voice doesn't matter because you will never out vote the majority. It's like having two employers. You're bound to them and they will not treat you with dignity or respect. We have suffered a loss of seniority under this union, which will lead to job loss. They sent out the ratified agreement Friday evening and expected members to learn how to use an online discussion group over the weekend and have read and the new agreement by Monday and Tuesday for discussion and then to vote the following day. Meanwhile, there's a pandemic going on and workers are not able to talk with one another. Most members don't even know that a ratified agreement has been made. Very sneaky.
