Great Northern Insulation

Had Great Northern Insulation remove my old attic insulation, and blow in some new stuff. Quick, clean, friendly. John, Malcolm, and Surang were awesome. From the sales people, through the procedure, including the admin, everything was run smoothly and professionally. I would 100% recommend Great Northern Insulation to anyone that asked.

Five Stars!! I am so happy with the work that Kenny and John did in my mom’s attic. They were great, worked quickly and efficiently, and were so helpful answering all of our questions. And they didn’t leave a speck of dust behind!! What a great experience!

I had GNI top up my attic insulation. Mike Chatterton came by inspected my attic to provide a quote and provide some information about my options. They followed up with a formal quote through email. Once I hired them for the job we set an installation date. They arrived on time and did a great job. I appreciated how they laid mats down to protect my floors. I would certainly hire them again and recommend them without hesitation.

The only reason that this review doesn’t get a zero is that I will give Great Northern customer service some credit for trying to make our spray foam insulation job at our cottage right.The spray foam work done deserves a zero or no stars. Our old cottage had exposed 2 by 4 walls and there was not a single cavity that the foam did not protrude beyond the studs, making installation of any wallboard impossible. On top of this despite stapling up plastic barrier (we know because we had to pull out hundreds of staples, some on unfinished parts of the cottage but also some in our floors, the wall quarter-rounds and even in some of the finished wood areas or the cottage) there was overspray everywhere, most significantly on our ceiling where we intended to leave natural wood with a whitewash finish. So GNI tried to make it right. They sent crews for 2 more days meaning we were displaced from our place and it required vacation days to be there. After two days of working with 2 people on the first day and 4 people on the second day with work involving what they call scarfing (sawing) the walls to remove excess foam and scraping the ceiling and then sanding the ceiling, I asked the site foreman on day 2 if there were vacuuming the walls. He insisted that the crew would sweep and vacuum the walls. The did run one vacuum (they could have used three) and then wrapped up the job. Going back into our place and starting to put furniture back in place we realized there was bits of purple foam dust everywhere. My wife and I vacuumed with two vacuums for 2 hours on Saturday and another 2 hours on Sunday. Upon more correspondence GNI offered to come back to do more cleanup but I declined. At this point I no longer wish to be displaced from my place nor do I trust their quality of work. As I said to them, when a job is done this poorly it is almost impossible to make it right. My wife and I plan to do a complete wall vacuum with a brush attachment to try to remove as much of the loose foam as possible on our next trip to the cottage. Hopefully this will somewhat remedy the situation until we can drywall.Did GNI attempt to provide good customer service? Yes. Did they do the job with any sort of quality? No. Would I recommend them? I leave that to your judgement.

We hired GNI to replace our attic insulation. They did a great job. While removing the old insulation they found issues with the vapor barrier. It was crumbling, which meant they needed to do a hybrid installation. This involved installing a layer of spray foam before adding the new insulation. While this did increase the cost of the job quite a bit, they were very transparent about why this needed to be done, and they were fair with the price for the increased scope of work. All the work was done on time and everyone, from Jason, the sales rep, to Dan, the install team, and all the girls in the office were very professional and a pleasure to deal with. We are grateful they pointed out the issue and recommended the proper solution. Do it right and do it once! We just had a new heat pump installed about a month ago, and we have already seen how the new insulation has reduced the workload on the heat pump. We were referred to GNI by the man who did our roof in 2015, and I would recommend GNI to anyone in need of insulation upgrades.

Great Northern came and sprayed foam insulation on the underside of the floor of our new room above the garage. The team came out on a cold day and did a great job. Very professional, very efficient and very clean work. I would have them back for more work in a minute.

The work was done on time BUT the issues began after it was done. They sent me a final invoice stating in clear terms how much I owe them. I paid it in full that very same day.The following week they sent me another email telling me I still owe them money and I explained I sent the money snd attached confirmation of payment. They replied this new amount is for some other invoices posted on my account". Their words not mine.It looks like this company is defrauding their on customer by asking for more money after they have told you your invoice was paid in full. Be very aware!"

Had them insulate our attic, they were to put in R60. Later discovered through an inspection we only had an average of R30 afterward. So they put in half the Insulation they were paid for. Over 3 months of calling to get it corrected and they just keep making excuses, and now won’t even answer or return calls. Head office says it must be handled by the local Port Perry branch who did the work but they won’t even respond. Finally got company rep out, he agreed insulation was insufficient, not sure why, is scheduling a truck to top up to proper depth.

Professional, Priced Right, Easy Work with! Had a great experience with this company. They were the best price and I can't find anything but good comments. They were great to work with on scheduling (even though I needed to change install several times due to other contractors), their communication was fast and efficient, the crew in came in right on time, left when expected, did a superb job in the basement, and I had no clean up to do after they left. No last minute surprises on the invoice. It was a pleasure to work with them ... can't think of a single thing to change for GNI. I have been dealing with many contractors lately ... WOW, what a team. Would not hesitate to recommend. And, oh yes, my basement is dry, warm and and more quiet.

Great Northern Insulation did the insulation in the attic of our garage. They did a fantastic job, they were very professional. I would highly recommend this company.
