MEC Edmonton South

I recently purchased a smart trainer for my road bike at MEC on the South side. This is an industry that is completely new to me thus my knowledge is minimal. Not knowing much about road biking and especially trainers I felt uneasy and out of my element walking into MEC. The reception I had received by the gentlemen in the bike department completely exceeded any expectations I had. I wish I had gotten his name but he went out of his way and took his time to explain to me everything I required. I really appreciated that he sold me exactly what would meet my needs and did not try to up sell me something that would not resonate with my experience level . I felt extremely appreciated as a customer and felt listened to. I have worked in retail sales in the past and hope I exuded half as much excitement and knowledge to the people I helped as I received that day. I had a great overall experience and I will be back.

Today I went to MEC to get a little fix up of my bike(after calling pretty much every shop In the city, who told me it would be between a week and three weeks to get a little tune up)Headed to MEC and Garry (who was clearly busy) helped me out in lightening speed and got me on the road in our good weather in minutes.All the while, Educated me on the ins and outs of bike maintainence. It was GREAT service and I'll be back for a full service ASAP.

Great customer service. I was buying a pack for the very first time and had no idea what to look for. The staff were able to help me find a pack that was perfect for what I needed and fit my budget.

I wish I could rate this store lower than a star. One of the staff without a name tag, said her name is Vanessa. She was making face while I talk to one of the managers, to return stuff which I bought but I lost the receipt. I was told by the rude lady that I must be a member of MEC so they can accept the goods even without a receipt. But nobody told me about that policy beforehand. Anyways, long story short, this store policy of MEC not accepting in tact return goods even with bank accout evidence is against good commercial policy. The way that staff deal with customer like me is so unprofessional. I was told that they cannot even issue a duplicate receipt because it is not in their system, I ask politely if they can check through the SKU number still they said no. Again, be careful to keep your receipt when you purchase from them, cause my experience with is like talking to a supreme court, that their front staff decision is final. Just completely unethical way of the staff in dealing with customers, from now on I will never set foot in MEC ever again.

I visited yesterday for the first time in years and was happy to see their clothing sizing being more inclusive to other body types! I was asked if I needed help by a staff member in every section of the store. Fitting rooms were clean and tidy. Great service!

The store has gear but be careful to look at the price tags on the products AND on the shelf AND THEN BE SURE THAT THE PRICE YOU PAY IS THE LOWEST PRICE DISPLAYED. I've found the last 2 times I shopped at this store the price on the product/shelf was $10 less than I paid at the till on more than one item. I bought several items so did not realize I was overcharged until I got home. They refunded the difference when I went back but if you are not careful you may find you are paying more than their product or list price. When I told the staff of the inconsistency in pricing they said sometimes the items price goes down but it hasn't yet been changed in the computer. They know this is a problem but have done nothing to correct the problem and are misleading consumers with the shelf and product prices being much lower than the till/computer charges when you check out! BEWARE IT SEEMS TO BE A CHOSEN BUSINESS PRACTICE TO MISLEAD CONSUMERS - BE SURE YOU ARE NOT BEING RIPPED OFF WHEN YOU ARE AT THE TILL AND CHECK YOUR RECEIPT AGAINST TAG/SHELF PRICES!

Great store! It has a lot space and lots of choices in products. It is always super clean ! Love their brands !

Very disappointed. Was in store 40 minutes to get specific items. Nothing with prices and had to ask for the price on 3 separate items and still no one asked if I needed a hand.there were items that were last years items mixed in ,that I found on my own, were clearance prices. Went to second possible purchase same thing. Got to till, older individual talking on phone, and waited 5 minutes in a line of just 2 of us to pay, while 3 ppl were at return counter talking away. Could’ve sold me $1000 worth of items but I gave up. Thanks atmosphere for helping me find what I required for my hiking necessities!

Clean, spacious store on one level. Lots of clearance items currently available, including winter jackets, jumpers and Craft cross-country ski pants. I prefer the layout of the Northside store, but service seems to be more readily available at this location. Ample parking is available out front in the lot.
