I had gained weight and needed to get a lot off. My family doctor recommended this clinic. I find you talk with a different nutritionist each time then you wait for a doctor to call you and get the same information with a diferent doctor each time. They push you to get the surgery or take medication to help you lose weight. I pre pandemic was attending a weekly support group for weight loss. The Wharton clinic teaches me the same things I have learned in 10 and years with TOPS I had loss 100 pounds during my years. When I had health issues and lock downs my depression put me into gaining a lot of weight back. I have since gone back to TOPS when they were open again. Back on track I have last 35 lbs since April TOPS has been around for 70 years and helped many lose weight by eating healthy. TOPS is for me.

If I could give this clinic less than one star I would. I went to the clinic twice, once was a virtual visit and the second was in person. They fail to provide answers to your questions and instead just send you handouts to your email. This in itself would be fine, and I probably would have continued to attend the clinic if it weren't for the rudest doctor I EVER met! First, he tried to push drugs on me and proceeded to tell me that eating only once a day or once every two days was fine that it was called intermittent fasting. I went into the clinic to create a better relationship with food. THE LACK OF COMPASSION from this man was unprecedented. You would think that a clinic that specializes in weight loss would have a better staff that wasn't so rude and condescending. When I tried to speak about concerns I had I was brushed off and told that I had to go somewhere else to get the tests I wanted done. At the end of the appointment, he again pushed for me to take appetite suppressant drugs, sorry but I won't be funding your kickback when they are a lifetime commitment. You would think they would care about their patients, but they don't. DO NOT RECCOMEND. And to those that say you just need to put in the work, yes losing weight is work, but at a clinic that specializes in weight loss they should be a little more trained in how to speak to someone as a human.

Dr Wharton seemed interested in obesity medicine but only saw him the once. After that the doctors and clinic staff I dealt with ranged from sad to uncaring. No one was happy to work there. In person doctors soon went to virtual doctor and visits were rushed and again, they didn’t seem interested or like the wanted to be there. It was the overwhelming feeling that no one wanted to be there or was happy working there that made me stop going. Something weird about that place.

I was very excited to get started at this clinic. Reading Dr. Wharton’s credentials and his current involvement in research gave me hope that I would get help through evidence based interventions. However, after waiting 6 months to see them, I have to say I’m very disappointed. The educators and drs were friendly but not helpful. All they did was read, and/or to tell me to read handouts on their website. I can’t believe I waited 6 months to essentially be told “look at our website for help and tips and contact us in the future if you need more assistance.” I’m getting my PhD, I can do that on my own. What I need is dedicated, tailored help and structure with my weight loss journey. I’m sad to say this clinic fell sharply below expectations. For those looking for help on this difficult path, I suggest looking elsewhere.

I wish that I could give them less stars than 1. This was an absolutely asinine experience.I am diagnosed with PCOS and have gained weight because of this, despite being quite active and eating pretty well. My family doctor referred me so that I could have a better understanding of what was going on with my hormones and if medication was the best next step.I met with their endocrinologist" which I'm using very lightly because she had zero interest in my hormones. Within the first 60 second she asked me if I wanted bariatric surgery

This weight loss clinic is alright, however my main issue is that you see a different doctor every time. One time, I had the rudest male doctor I've ever encountered in my life. He mansplanned to me, was incredibly rude and condescending and sarcastically told me that we can do more than walk 4 k a day can't we??" Don't remember the doctors name exactly but EXTREMELY rude. This place is okay as long as your fine with dealing with someone else every time. Hopefully you don;'t get this rude male doctor !!"

I have had a fantastic experience with the care at Wharton Medical Clinic. I asked my family doctor to refer me last year, and my only regret is not having done that sooner. How many times did I try and fail at the simplified mainstream calories in vs calories out philosophy of weight loss? More times than I can count. I just kept getting heavier. Any time I ever achieved a calorie deficit I was left ravenous, jittery, and completely miserable which ultimately resulted in failure. Calorie deficit for me meant a horrible starving/depleted feeling that no amount of clean eating, whole foods or balanced nutrition could take away. More weight gain. Weight loss for people suffering from obesity is so much more than simple calories in vs calories out. There are individual metabolisms, medical conditions, hormone imbalances and complex psychology all at play and having an impact on results. The team at the Wharton Clinic gets that. Since becoming a patient at the Wharton Clinic, for the first time in my adult life I have been able to loose a significant amount of excess weight - without extreme suffering on my part. Effort yes; but extreme suffering no. Their counsellors helped me set small, achievable and sustainable goals and supported me with my questions and concerns along the way. The doctors monitored my progress from a medical standpoint keeping an eye on my lab work and progress with weight loss and even arranging a sleep study for me (go figure sleep apnea, obesity, satiety hormones and difficulty with weight loss are all closely connected). In addition to the support from the counsellors and Doctors, I was offered the options of investigating weight loss surgery or trying medication to support weight loss. I opted to try the medication (Ozempic) and what can I say? It has changed my life. It has affected my satiety so that I can maintain a calorie deficit successfully without getting the shakes, feeling ravenous, or like I am starving. The weight has come off little by little and the small successes have kept me motivated in terms of nutritional goals. I've lost 10% of my body weight in the last year. A miracle for me. It's easier to move now - exercise is still hard work but it doesn't leave me so hungry that I can't see straight. I wish the Wharton Clinic (or more clinics like it) were more available and accessible to the people of Ontario and Canadians alike. HELLO PROVINCIAL AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT I'M TALKING TO YOU. Obesity management is healthcare. In many cases it is preventative health care. If our government had the opportunity to facilitate preventative healthcare for Canadians why wouldn't they take it? Another thing to mention, in my case the medication was not covered by insurance and I had to pay out of pocket as I did not meet the insurance company's criteria of obesity plus diabetes or hypertension. It is currently costing me approximately $750 for 8 weeks. Frustrating and sad that access to this medication for health promotion and disease prevention is not available to all Canadians of every socioeconomic level. At least my care as a patient of the Wharton Clinic has been paid for by OHIP and I am extremely grateful to have had access to their expertise. Thank you everyone at the Wharton Clinic.

I have been working with the doctors at this clinic for the last 3/4 years. Ignore the negative reviews. If you make the effort and allow this team to help you, you will change your life. Dr. Wharton was the first doctor who listened to me, didn't brush off my concerns. I lost 100 pounds and have maintained that loss for 2 years so far. (to the negative posters) No doctor can wave a wand and make you lose weight, YOU are the only one who can do it. Stop blaming those around you and do the work. Thanks Dr. Wharton, you changed my life.

I started gaining extra weight with this darn COVID-19 situation. I got in touch with the clinic through my Doctor. I have found the help I have received to-date to be EXCELLENT! The nutritionist took the time to talk to me and suggested great food to substitute in place of the food I had become accustomed to. Her suggestions were easy to incorporate into my diet. The Doctor was really helpful and I felt like he had my interests in mind when he spoke with me. Since talking to him, I have been unable to implement one of his steps, but continue to lose weight thankfully. Speaking to them was a god-send, and yes, I am a REAL PERSON!! I will definitely keep up with them as their advice and guidance has been really wonderful. Thank you to everyone at the clinic, and I look forward to a long and rewarding experience.
