Submission Arts Academy
I joined here a few months before the pandemic hit and I was welcomed by everyone I met. Very friendly atmosphere and positive environment. I enjoy the challenge and exercise that these classes bring every week.During the quarantine shutdown Spencer worked hard at putting online/virtual lessons to help us stay motivated. He encouraged everyone to stay connected and check-in with eachother to get through the harder times. He's a fantastic instructor and demonstrates great leadership.Everyday I show up it is clean and organized. All instructors are always professional and welcoming. I can't wait to get back in there soon.

My family has been training at Submission Arts Academy since 2018 -my husband, myself, and three children. Professor Spencer has diverse team of Professors and coaches -men and women who each offer their amazing skills to each of our levels. There are many classes at different times to suit your day time or evening preferences. The kids program is fun and my son has implemented his skills to defend himself when attacked at school. The club is clean, well organized, and feels like a second family. I highly recommend you train at Submission Arts Academy to gain confidence, strength, and skills in an ego-free and friendly setting.

I’m Brazilian and have been training jiu jitsu for a long time before moving to Barrie. I’ve tried other gyms but after going to my first class at SubArts I fell in love.Even though the staff is Canadian, they run one of the most authentic BJJ gyms that I’ve known so far. Beyond the technical skills that are for sure present, the combination of a strong wrestling foundation with an utmost respect for the community makes this gym a rare find.Don’t look elsewhere if you want to experience the best of what Jiu Jitsu can offer you.

Been going here for over 2 years now and you couldn't ask for a more supportive environment. I personally am a really slow learner and was worried I would get discouraged and stop going but it was the exact opposite, not only are all the instructors always super helpful but the more experienced students go out of their way to work with beginners and help during drills and open mats. Jujitsu is already a great discipline to learn but when you combine it with the amazing staff and students of Submission Arts, you get skills and friendships that will last you a lifetime. Thanks to everyone at the Academy. OSS!

I started at Submission Art Academy almost 1 year. In my first class, I felt very welcomed by the instructors and other members of the academy. Professor Spencer has built a positive community of coaches and members that can learn an amazing sport in a safe place. Everyone is supportive of each other and has willingness to help new members with confidence and technique. Being only a year into this sport, I have seen my skill improve greatly, have increase my fitness levels and have built strong friendships. I would highly recommend joining Submission Arts Academy to anyone.

If in Barrie, consider Submission Arts Academy for a few reasons.1. A very clean environment. Important for those who don't want to take home more than just skills2. Friendly. Important as you want competitive rolls but not dire rolls and their intensity management was great3. The coaching. Spencer is a great coach with great details and some great humor injected to keep it light and fun.4. Female friendly. There were many women training of varied skill set and the vibe seemed very comfortable for them to train.Overall a great experience and look forward to training here again soon

Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came. This academy is the Cheers" of martial arts schools in the City of Barrie. I have been training at Submission Arts Academy since 2016 and I can't speak highly enough of Professor Spencer and the learning environment he has fostered. Spencer shows a genuine interests in his students and is just a great person. This has allowed him to create an amazing training atmosphere that I have not experienced at any other martial arts club. Great gym - great people, great instruction, and the facility itself is really nice. It's a little more on the traditional side in terms of class structure, but there are no silly uniform requirements or rules that I've seen at other places. Definitely more of a focus on the gi but there are good no gi classes also (twice per week). Lots of great grapplers, and everyone has been super welcoming to me even though I'm only around for a short time.
