Spicers Calgary

I have been dealing with Shippers supply for years... or spicers or whatever they are calling themselves now.... in the last few years this business has been on quite the decline.The service here is outrageous.its painfully slow, everyone who answers the phone is rude and uninformed and i always feel like i'm a giant burden for wanting to put in a order.Does anyone has a good alternative?

After having worked in the customer service industry for over a decade, I do not generally believe anyone deserves to be poorly reviewed on the basis of 1 bad experience. So when a friend spoke last year with scathing remarks about the customer service over at Shippers Supply, I figured it may have been a bad day, an extremely busy warehouse, a one-off. I don't condemn a business based on 1 bad experience.Then today I tried calling them up. And here was my experience. Sure, I called on a Friday afternoon. Not the best time to expect the world from someone itching to go home, and I get that. But I've been searching for a particular type of staples across Calgary all day and haven't had any luck. I am pretty sure they used to supply it for us back in the day, so I'll give them another shot.After chatting up the icy salesperson for about 10 minutes about my situation and how much I would appreciate it if they have it in stock, the item is located. One size is discontinued, the other is in stock. I breathe a sigh of relief - I can be there this afternoon before closing to pick it up!Not so fast. I am advised that it's 90 minutes to closing so I can't pick up my order until Monday as it takes 2 hours to pick any order and the front desk area is closed due to Covid. Rather abrupt, IMHO. But full stop, it is what it is, sorry not sorry. They have me over a barrel and tough luck for me. And it's not like I'm ordering 30 items and it takes time to pick. If a 1 item order takes a few minutes to find on a computer, in my experience it usually only takes 2 minutes to pick it off the shelf. No such luck. Thanks but no thanks.About 45 minutes later I am still looking, and I happen to call Instabox. The lady says her warehouse is closed, front office has gone home for the day, but she has the staples and goes upstairs to get them for me. She meets me at the door 5 minutes before closing for a cash Point of Sale.The degrees of service I experienced today could not be more different. I know where I will be giving my business going forward.

They have nice pictures of a storefront but in reality it’s a distribution centre. Pretty misleading.

These guys have been fantastic every single time I’ve used them, great customer service given covid related constraints they were hit with, and the staff has been nothing but polite and professional in the loads of interactions I’ve had with them. I see that the so-called ‘bad’ reviews are mostly by first-world-problems type geniuses who don’t really understand how a large business works and think they’re the sole master of their universe. Thanks for the good work Spicers/Shippers Supply and please continue to do good for the community like you always have. Thanks!

Well I would like to start by saying for some of us who work in the SE Industrial, that moving FAR away was not cool Shipper Supply, not cool at all. Secondly I then recently visited your store, past the airport, after driving 35 minutes to get there. The front was closed and proceeded to call the phone number (as the front was closed due to COVID) and I got told it would be over hour to get some tape, and best head over to Staples for some if I needed it. I have been buying small items from Shipper Supply for over 13 years because I feel good supporting local, please guys I know some of you there, it was tape... I know the shelf its on, if this was self serve I'd be in and out like at those big box stores. Still going to buy here tho as I respect the business and like the products regardless of the poor sales guy that told me this that day.

Worst customer service ever. Drive 35 min only to be told by the lazy sales guy behind the desk to come back tomorrow cause it’s to much work to go get one box of shrink wrap. Wow awesome customer service I’ll make sure I’m never back

Amazing experience. Robert was amazing in helping through the whole process. I am super impressed. Professional, courteous, just all around awesome.

If your coming here for pick or drop off make sure to use the restrooms before as they don't let customers or truck driver to use the washrooms !!

It was certainly a bit convoluted to make the change from stopping in and buying off the shelf as Shippers Supply to now having a Spicers online account to order there and pick up our tiny infrequent order at the massive warehouse dock, but the staff made it easy to set up and are always friendly when we call. Their stock of obscure and legacy items can’t be beat and we’ve got better pricing here than elsewhere on our more common purchases.
