Dogs in the Park
I joined DITP during the summer in the Good Dog program to help my dog with some behavior issues. I initially thought I would get through the program quickly and then move on with my life, however that was not the case . I came in for training and found a wonderful and supportive community. The Good Dog program was very supportive and non judgmental. They created a safe space to help me grow as a dog owner and learn how to support my dog and meet her needs. Since starting the program my relationship with my dog has improved substantially. We are both so much happier having been through the program. We've moved into the Levels program and are loving it. The program is flexible with a mix of in person and online classes. I really enjoy how I can go at my own pace and focus on the skills that are important to me and my dog. All the instructors are so kind, patient, and helpful. I thought I would be intimidated but everyone (even the other students) are so supportive.

I am a few months into the good dog program for my 4 year old rescue dog that I have had for 10 months and who has pretty severe anxiety and reactivity. One of my favourite things about DITP is that it is community focused, in the good dog (behaviour issues) program for example you have several weekly opportunities to connect with other people in the program - this is super valuable because it gives you a place to talk with other people facing similar issues. I have recommended the program to a few of my friends already, and found that that the program gives you way more bang for your buck than other trainers (5ish classes online/in person each week you can attend for 2 months (40 total!!) plus a whole library of online lectures teaching you how to do different things as opposed to other programs that only give you 6ish in person classes for the same price).Something that I also appreciate that makes DITP different from other places is that the trainers will help you work through all potential issues with your dog. In the past I was navigating trying to figure out if my dog had any medical issues impacting his behaviour, eg allergies, without much understanding on how to approach these topics - I got fantastic support and coaching on how to chat with my vet in a way that was more efficient and helped the vet better figure out what type of care my dog needs.Something to be aware of is that the structure of the good dog program can feel quite intense so its good to be prepared for that when you sign up - but it is definitely worth it because you come out with a really holistic training program. They also give you options to pause if you need a break for a week or two which is nice. The coaching teaches you exactly why different techniques work and others don't rather than just telling you to do things. Also - from and EDI perspective I have definitely found that DITP is a very welcoming environment. All the trainers I have interacted with so far have used inclusive language, the *vibes* are good and it feels like a safe space from my experience!

I recommend Dogs in the Park to everyone who is seeking dog training. We adopted a rescue in January 2021 and knew there would be work involved but as it turns out, trying to train a reactive resuce with separation anxiety on your own can get overwhelming quick. We had reached out to multiple trainers and were struggling to find someone to take us on. Then we reached out to Dogs in the Park after they were recommended to us by family. They responded immediately and accepted us right away.We walked into a solid community of skilled and knowledgeable trainers and behaviour specialists, and wonderful dog owners and lovers. The support from the whole community (regardless of program) is astounding. Everyone is always willing to help where they can, give recommendations, offer advice, puppy play dates, etc. Everyone celebrates your dog's success. Especially as someone with a reactive dog, it is nice to know you're not alone and to have such a strong support system. We have been in the Good Dog program since late February 2021 and it has made a world of difference. Our dog is more resilient and happier, and continues to grow more resilient as we work with her and the Dogs in the Park team. We get more knowledgeable, understanding, and proud each week. Overall, we all work better as a unit.Dogs in the Park focuses on meeting your dog where they are, challenging them in ways they can handle, and encouraging them (and you) to grow together and at a pace that is manageable for you and your dog. They help you learn to understand what your dog is trying to tell you and how you can foster a better relationship that is based in trust. We wouldn't be where we are today without the amazing Dogs in the Park team and community.

Although I have owned dogs for over 45 years, it wasn't until I got my last dog 5 years ago that I really got hooked on dog training. I signed up for what I thought would be for 8 weeks, long enough to learn the rudimentary skills of down, sit, stand, heel and come. Six and a half years later, I am still learning and enjoying it.If you are going to own a dog, you need to invest the time in socializing them and teaching them some basic skills of obedience at the very least. Dogs in the Park have the knowledgeable, friendly staff to help you achieve those goals. They are always available if you have problems. I would not hesitate in recommending DITP. IMHO, this is the best training school in Guelph.

John, Sue and their staff are great. Our pup Sadie has been in their program for just under 1 year and is doing very well. We are constantly being told how well behaved she is for just a year old pup. They are extremely helpful whenever we have questions or challenges with her.

I can't express how happy I am with Dogs in the Park; the training and becoming part of the Dogs in the Park community is so rewarding; it isn't just about training a dog to behave, it is about so much more

Lots of one on one attention! The dogs and puppies also get numerous times to be socialized ( and the handlers too!) Positive training environment for the dogs! We continue to learn new training ideas every week!

Dogs in the Park's Good Dog program for dogs with behavioral issues is really helping me understand and manage my dog-reactive young dog. Their positive techniques have given me more confidence in navigating this difficult stage in my dog's life. Highly recommend.

I started the Good Dog Program" with Dogs in the Park after my 1.5 year old Bernese Shepard had a completely unexpected biting incident. Our family was in shock and unsure if we had the skills or resources to mange. I had already done a full year of training with another excellent dog trainer in town - however we needed more support and specific skills to make sure this did not happen again. Dogs in the Park was recommended by a friend. I am so grateful for everything my family is learning. After only 8 weeks we became better at understanding our dogs cues

Working with Sue and Lucy and the team has been awesome for our dog. We really enjoy the classes and the instructors are all very happy and helpful. The good dog program has been helping our reactive dog learn to exist more calmly with other dogs and in new environments. Would highly recommend especially since they seem to be one of the few trainers in the KW/Guelph area that does reactive dog training that I found. They do positive only training which is nice, and their philosophies on training make so much sense. I plan on bringing all of my future dogs to this school
