AVOID THIS COMPANYCalled 3 or 4 companies for an emergency repair. Amherst Roofing was the first to respond so we went ahead. Rate was $85/hour for 2 men (total of $170 + taxes per hour). Our bill was for almost $10,000, of which $2500 was for materials. I called to complain and the owner explained that I was paying for the workers to drive to get materials. That's almost $200 per hour (with taxes) for 2 guys to run back and forth for materials. To be reasonable, let's assume that 2 men worked 6 hours per day on site for 4 days = 48 hours. (They did not work that many hours...We were home. The first day, two men were here for about 2-1/2 hours, then left for materials and didn't return that day. The same sort of thing happened the 2nd day... two men for a few hours than gone.)There was no breakdown of costs whatsoever on the bill...nothing to say how many hours were spent on site; no description of the work done; no list of materials. To be reasonable, let's assume that 2 men worked 6 hours per day on site for 4 days = 48 hours. The bill was for 76 hours. That means that they charged for 2 men for 9-1/2 hours per day for 4 days. Now I recently called them back because the problem was not 100% resolved. They arrived, looked up and agreed there was something not quite right. Let's say that visit lasted 30 minutes.Today I received a bill for almost $400 for that visit. So let's get this straight... they want $400 to visit and confirm that something is still not right. They want to do the repair in the spring. Well that's not going to happen.
