Grandad's Donuts

We went to Grandads today to pick up donuts for a party. When we got there at 1:25 pm, there was a line up, the store was closed with a sign indicating that they were out of donuts and would have more donuts at 2 pm. We decided that we had enough time to wait the 35 minutes. 2 pm came and went, doors did not open; no one came out to update us. By now the line up had grown to around 50 or 60 people. At 2:14 pm I went to ask how much longer it would be so we could decide if we could continue to wait or not. They refused to listen to me, let alone talk to me. Then a girl opened up a take out window and very rudely told me to stop bothering them and if I didn't stop, they would not serve me. I tried to tell her I just needed to get an update so that I could assess if we could wait or not, but she shut the window and walked away. At about 2:18, a woman (who I was told by other patrons was the owner) came out of the back of the shop and said it would be 2 more minutes. She said that there was a limit of 2 dozen each (which was totally understandable given the line up) and then proceeded to say that if anyone was going to be rude, they would not be served. Finally, at 2:34, someone opens the door and says that it will be another 3-4 minutes as they are just filling the display. Finally, at 2:50 they open the doors! We got our 2 dozen donuts and left the place at 3:10, an hour and 45 minutes after we lined up for the 2 pm promised opening. I will NOT be returning to Grandad's anytime soon. I am sure they couldn't possibly care less....they demonstrated that today repeatedly. I don't believe anyone should be treated rudely, not by customers or anyone else. That also means that customers should not be treated rudely by establishments or their employees. As my husband pointed out, the rudeness from the employees could be a reflection of the rudeness from the owner. As one lovely little boy said while we were waiting most patiently, there must be well over 50 donut shops in Canada

Donuts were good but the selection was terrible. With THREE hours to go on a Sunday, it looked like one side had been completely closed off for the day and other side was only about half full of racks. They were sold out of all the selections I wanted but were filling the empty areas mostly with chocolate donuts which I assume are a no-brainer for sales. I can understand if you want to start shutting down with an hour left in the day, but with three hours left and a constant line-up? No. The donut display areas also look smaller since the renovations although I stand to be corrected.

Grandad's Donuts is a local favorite that specializes in freshly-made donuts. I visited Grandad's Donuts on the last day before they closed for renovations, and had a great experience overall.First off, the selection of donuts is fantastic. With many donuts to choose from, I had a hard time picking which flavors to try. Each donut is made fresh daily and you can tell that the ingredients are of high quality. I appreciate that the donuts were not greasy or heavy, and you could tell that they were made with care.The coffee was also good - not too strong or bitter, and just the right temperature. Adding milk and sugar gave it the perfect creamy sweetness that paired well with the donuts.The atmosphere of the shop was cozy and inviting, with friendly staff who were happy to help you make your selection. The decor was charming, with vintage signage and old-fashioned details that added to the overall ambiance.The only downside was that I visited on the last day before they closed for renovations so the space was a bit cramped. However, this did not detract from the overall experience and I can't wait to come back once the renovations are complete.Overall, Grandad's Donuts is a must-visit for any donut lover in Hamilton. The selection, quality, and atmosphere are all top-notch, and the friendly staff make the experience even better. I highly recommend giving Grandad's Donuts a try, and can't wait to come back for more donuts and coffee in the future

We were searching for some local donuts and stumbled upon this place and I'm so happy we found them! Perfect little local, old school donut shop. Very welcoming and efficient employees! The line was out the door when we stopped by (which is a testament to how good this place is) and they moved everyone along very well. Excellent donut selection! We'll be back next time we're in town!

First time trying Grandad’s donuts. There’s definitely a hype around them since reopening so maybe that’s why my expectations were quite high.Got the Boston Cream and the Walnut Crunch (everybody seems to be raving about that one). Boston Cream was good, but it could have used more cream… and the Walnut Crunch had more like a… cake texture I guess? That was interesting.

No line. Awesome service. Great donuts. Keep up the good work. You gotta try this place.

The donuts are great, and the staff is charming, but the rule that you can only order 3 of any donut flavour is ridiculous. Four people in my household love ghost donuts, but now only three of my family members can enjoy them. I waited 40 minutes to learn about this new rule, which was very disappointing. I was lucky to have a very nice person behind me that offered to purchase the ghost donut in trade for a walnut crunch. We then met in the parking lot to exchange our donuts like criminals. I appreciate what this individual did.

Very disappointed in this place since they have reopened. Day of reopening the donuts were over cooked and barely any filling in the donuts, i thought it might be because they were so busy. Just picked some up today and they are not burnt but they are much smaller, i guess its time to find a new donut place since it seems they need to cut corners in order to pay for the renovations.
