Bide Awhile

I have never adopted a fur baby from this organization. I have no experience in that respect. I did feel badly for a stray I had been feeding and she did have Feline Leukemia. I called and spoke with a lady who told me a specific time and day to bring the cat to them (then again she also didnt know that feline leukemia is transmissible from one cat to the other since she told me that during our conversation as well!!). I have other indoor cats in my home that I had to think of and expressed that concern as well as my worry for the stray. The morning we were taking this stray to them someone called me and told me they would not be taking the cat. I had already left my home and was en route. Then I was told by the man who called me that it wasnt their problem I decided to take on a stray cat! I offered a sizable donation to them as well as I would for any organization who could help this stray. However, THIS is the attitude of someone involved in pet rescue when being asked about what happened and about clearly incompetent staff who should also find something other than rescue to take up their days! Definite lack of compassion! This is a huge issue as it shines a light on how disorganized and poorly managed it is. I was told the staff was new and couldnt make that decision. For real??? So either staff are not trained properly or they dont know their role! VERY DISAPPOINTING! I highly do NOT recommend ever taking any animal in need to this organization. P.S. I did find a very reputable organization to give this lovely cat a home who had compassion and love as well as very grateful for the donation that quite honestly would take care of the vet costs for the stray quite well. This shelter is amazing and I'd definitely recommend adopting from them! The cats are very well taken care of upon arrival and the cleanliness level is great!

Our life was changed for the best when we visited Bide Awhile last October and fell in love with our dear Ana. This shelter is truly something special, with caring staff and a relaxed environment that allows the animals’ personalities to shine for visitors. We felt that we really got to know many of the cats and were able to find the one that—as we tell her every day—is ‘an blessing’ to us.

I got my cat Bianca from here, and the service here is amazing. Staffs are very attentive and they will answer just about any question you would have. They also give good tips and good suggestions on cat food and other things. Cats are carefully checked before handing to me. Thanks for Bianca!

Did Tour for our Daughter and her Sparks group all the children loved it and were able to visit with the cats who were there all staff was amazing with the children answering questions. If you can please donate to this amazing shelter they can always use food for their food pantry and cleaning supplies.

Decided to seek volunteering at Bide Ahwile, I have a disability and I live in Small Options. I want to make more commitments to the community. And I adore animals. I am also on the spectrum of ASD but high functioning, and have anxiety. So did the other person that came with me, we were with our support worker and they were like “somethings wrong with these guys.” Said it loud enough so we could hear it. It’s not like I, myself, don’t know somethings wrong with me, I completely know that already but at least I’m trying to do better. Judging people’s mental state does not make it any better for us it just makes us feel more insecure. This is one thing I dislike about most organizations, there’s not enough representation of disabilities in workplaces so people get in a shocked state when they see someone is looking for a volunteer position or job position, and have the feeling to judge. Not only that they gave us volunteer papers that were filled out and we had to cross the names off to write our own in them, and I knew there were more areas that we could go to meet the animals but they only allowed us to look in one spot, didn’t bother to show us any of the other animals. The fact that a business has audacity to judge someone with obvious mental illness is not very helpful, in wanting to put good words into people’s mouths about their business.

While the mission of this organization is certainly valued, communication skills and empathy for humans is seriously lacking from the staff member I interacted with.References included in an adoption application weren’t contacted because “no one puts down references who are going to say anything bad about them”. I’ve never been so disappointed in what I feel should have been a positive interaction, especially with a non-profit organization.

Hard to get help from them for fixing a cat. They lost their house in a fire. Couldn't help.

Picked up two new friends! Very organized and professional and clearly they care for their animals!
