Monga Fried Chicken
Great customer service. Chicken cooked very well, not dry at all. The only down side is meat was juicy but not enough favorite on the inside. Still highly recommended try it out. 10/10 on the chicken skins !

I recently tried Mongu, a Taiwanese fried chicken spot in Chinatown, Calgary. As someone who enjoys trying new things, I was intrigued by the concept of Taiwanese-style fried chicken, as I had never heard of it before. Being a fan of Korean fried chicken, I decided to give it a try. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a friendly staff member who helped me choose what to order. I opted for the spicy fried chicken breast combo and was pleasantly surprised when I was informed that I would receive complimentary sweet potato balls skewers if I wrote a review. While the restaurant’s atmosphere could be improved, as it lacks a cozy ambiance, I would recommend ordering through your preferred food app for a more comfortable experience. Now, onto the food itself. The highlight of the meal was definitely the fries. They were freshly fried, seasoned with a delightful blend of spices that had a spicy yet sweet kick to them. The fries were absolutely delicious. As for the chicken, the portion size was larger than I expected, and the coating had a satisfying crunch. However, I found the chicken to be somewhat dry, possibly due to the unique batter, which resembled a savory cookie rather than the typical fried chicken batter. Upon realizing this, I inquired about additional sauce options such as honey garlic, soy or sweet and sour, but unfortunately, the only option available was ketchup. After consuming half of the chicken, I felt satisfied and decided not to finish the rest. While the flavor was enjoyable, I personally prefer saucy fried chicken. Overall, Mongu provided a new and interesting culinary experience, but it didn’t fully meet my expectations in terms of moistness and sauce variety.

If you're looking for the best Taiwanese chicken in Calgary, Monga Fried Chicken is the place to go. Their King chicken and fries oysters mushrooms is hands down the best dish on the menu!!!The chicken is perfectly cooked - crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside - and the seasoning is absolutely delicious. It's the perfect combination of sweet and savory, extra layer of flavour that takes the dish to the next level. The service at Monga is also excellent. The staff is always friendly and attentive, and they're happy to answer any questions you might have about the menu. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, with plenty of seating for small and large groups alike. But let's be real, the real star of the show here is the food. Monga's Taiwanese chicken is some of the best I've had, and the King chicken and fries oysters mushrooms is the perfect dish to try if you're new to the restaurant. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.Overall, I highly recommend Monga Fried Chicken to anyone looking for a delicious and satisfying meal in Calgary. It's the perfect spot for a casual lunch or dinner with friends, and the food is truly exceptional.

Very tasty Taiwanese style chicken! My family and I loved it. We did take out on the grand opening Canada day! We tried 2 types of non spicy chicken filet. The cheese baoger was good too! We will be back!

I left work famished and noticed Monga Fried Chicken conveniently located right in Centre Street in Chinatown. I decided to try it.I was taken aback by their massive menu. It took me a while to choose because everything looked so good. I settled on Hot Misty chicken (a plum based sweet and spicy seasoning), sweet potato balls, fried oyster mushrooms, and a pineapple jelly sparkling soda. The sparkling soda is like an Italian soda, but delightfully less sweet and refreshing. This one came with coconut jelly chunks! The fried oyster mushrooms were perfect. Decent portion. No notes. The chicken was a massive portion that was incredibly juicy. The seasoning I chose I found was lip licking delicious. I tried it with some hot sauce on the side out of curiosity but honestly it was good on its own with its seasonings that it doesn’t need sauce.Last the sweet potato balls. These ended up being the MVP. They are addictive AF! The texture is perfect as they have a crisp but chewy outer shell texture reminiscent of mochi or tapioca cheese puffs (I suspect it has rice or tapioca flour). The inside is a smooth mashed sweet potato filling that squirts out like a lava cake! They are pretty golden brown and purple for visual interest. Honestly I will be getting another order of these before I leave.Last, the service was fantastic! The staff were patient and attentive and asked what I thought. Very impressed!

Monga Fried Chicken
When I first saw the size of this chicken I thought the Monga stood for “Humonga”, but I have since learned it is an area of Taiwan. Where clearly they know what’s up about frying chicken. Cuz this stuff is bussin! It has an unexpectedly delicate sweet flavor which results from being marinated in honey. The seasoning in the batter (not dried flours) is TASTY and crispy hot. The inside is tender and juicy. This thing is H U G E. I ate one for supper and had some left over. Next time I will try sides. Because when something is this delicious, repeat visits are called for. The price is reasonable given how much meat you are getting.

Monga Fried Chicken
Monga definitely deserves more recognition for their delicious Taiwanese-style fried chicken! I haven’t seen a lot of social media hype around it as I just stumbled across this small restaurant and I’m glad I did. We got the Monga Crispy Fried Chicken, the King (XXL chicken) and the Fried King Oyster Mushrooms.
