Do not go here if you are a first home buyer and are not fully aware how everything works. Some things were not at all explained to us. First of all, you never actually speak with the notary, you can only ever speak with the receptionist. If you have a question for the notary directly, it has to pass through the receptionist and you have to wait until they've spoken, which is very inefficient. The only time we ever saw or heard from the notary himself was when we were in the office signing documents for 10 minutes. A whole bunch of documents were then dumped on us but it was never explained to us what we needed to do specifically with the property taxes. We never received anything in the mail either and we ended up having to pay penalties on tax that hadn't been paid to the Ville de Montréal. The instructions were stashed away in the pile of documents, but you'd expect this to be pointed out to us very clearly in person especially considering we don't know how the system works. Lastly, not a complaint because I speak French also, but the receptionist can't speak English, so just a heads up.
