Scholars Edge Painting

We are extremely happy to have had Jack G and his team paint the bleached exterior of our North Saanich house in July 2023. I am very mindful of safety procedures, being a retired doctor who saw too many house" accidents

I was very pleased with the professionalism and competency of the Scholars Edge Painting crew. They tackled my outside house trim with excellent results! Dealing with Christoph was easy, professional and straight forward. Thank you for a job well done!

I hired Scholars Edge to paint the south side of our house. They were happy to do this small job, which was only a 2 day job. I supplies the paint for 2 coats, which reduced the cost. They either spray or paint the traditional way. Spraying is a tad less expensive, and I believe spraying does a better job. After painting was complete I noticed a bit of a problem with the final finish. It appeared the colour of the siding near trim edges was not uniform with the rest of the wall. I speculate the problem may have been caused by a touch up brush that was not cleaned properly the day before. Exact cause of problem was unknown. In any event, the employees agreed there was a problem with the finish and they wanted to “make it right”. They come back for a third day to complete a third coat. Give them credit for a good attitude. The result was a perfect finish. They showed up on time and worked hard all day.I would have given them 5 stars if not for the problem, which they corrected. I would definitely use Scholars Edge in the future.

We hired Christoph K (and Austin from his team) to paint our chimney and fascia board recently. To be 100% honest, in the beginning, we were not quite sure what to expect when he first knocked on our door, but the way he presented himself, and the fact he already worked for some of our neighbours who are willig to give reference, gave me enough reason to give it a try.Boy are we glad we did. Christoph first helped me to figure out different (7-8) options and costs, and then at my request, he connected me with a good carpenter who fixed some deficient fascia boards before the paint job. Throughout the entire project, he was respectful of my time, being either punctual or would inform me ahead of time if he was running late, and this is rare nowadays. He and Austin showed up at the agreed date and time, and went to work and completed the work earlier than expected. Both were extremely professional, pleasant, and polite throughout the entire time, another increasing rarity these days.To top it off, several hours after the works was done, we had noticed some areas looking a bit different under low lighting condition, so we contacted Christoph and he responded quickly, and scheduled for a visit. He came and saw what we saw, and then said he'd come back the next day and take care of it - on his own dollar and time. Couldn't have had a better experience than this. We would not hesitate to recommend Christoph and his team to our family and friends.

We hired Jack and his team to paint the trim and fascia on our house. We found Jack to be a likeable young man who seemed to act in a professional manner.Jack was not around for the job although he did drop in to check on progress. Nick and another fellow did the work.This is where it all went south. I don’t think these two young men had much experience with painting. They were nice enough young men but not very skilled. Our front concrete porch was left spattered with paint, along with hand prints (!) and smudges left on the darker hardiplank siding and on the carpet which they had failed to remove before painting! When we complained Jack told me that my husband had knocked over a can of paint which is why the front porch was stained. One of his workers had told him that and it was a falsehood. Jack also suggested that some of the spatter on the concrete was there before - even though we had purchased a Crown Isle show home in perfect condition - (no messy paint spills). Jack did come back to touch up some splotches left on the siding but told us he was unable to remove the paint on the front concrete porch.My husband had to go out and purchase a wire brush and some solvent to remove the paint. It took him an entire day and was really unpleasant for him as he has so much arthritis and artificial joints.We just uncovered another blotch of paint on the back patio step where a carpet had been placed over it to hide it. My husband is currently up a ladder trying to remove paint splatters from our windows and frames with a razor blade. This is really not acceptable.I cannot recommend using this company and regret hiring them in the first place.UPDATE: After posting this review I was contacted by the local Scholar’s Edge Head Office person, Jamie. His response was quick and he sent out a supervisor named Stefan to view the paint job, along with Jack. Stefan agreed that the work was substandard and made an appointment to have the worked fixed.Jack and Nick came by and spent over 3 hours trying to repair the damage. They were thorough although there were some places where the paint could not be removed. As well, the company refunded us $250 in compensation which was a gesture we appreciated.I like that the company stood behind their work and took steps to mitigate the problems we encountered. Kudos to them for that.

I recently had my south facing deck painted and am thrilled with the result. The 2 fellows did an excellent job of prepping before applying the 2 coats. I would definitely recommend this company.

Our house is mid-century modern, post and beam, with a stucco finish. Our painting contract was negotiated with Christoph Klimach, owner/operator of Scholars Edge. We appreciated Christoph's willingness to use a custom paint colour. We found Christoph lovely to deal with ... polite, professional and responsive. The two-story wall we wanted painted had an overhang with both main and trim colours. Working at the top of the wall where the soffit and facia on the overhang needed attention, Mark, our painter, was diligent in completing the restoration of the wood back to its best self ... scraping, sanding and priming.The job was completed on the arranged dates and finished slightly ahead of schedule. I felt Mark was hard working, and he paid attention to the details of the job. I would not hesitate to recommend Scholars Edge for jobs, large or small. I do feel that Mark, our painter, was exceptional.

We were very impressed with the professionalism and quality of the exterior painting project the team completed for us. They were very responsive to feedback and kept us up to date on the progress of the job. Thank you for helping us refresh our home.
