StepWell Soil
I very much enjoyed using Stepwell Soil throughout my entire four plant grow, Ive had zero problems from starting seeds to flowering in the same soil. This product is great for people who wish to use a living soil and don’t want to continually add amendments. Ive used solely the EM-1 Microbes and Distilled water and this run is the best run I’ve ever grown so far.

Hydroponics shop suggested I try this out as an organic soil (I've tried them all). So I picked some up at 65 dollars for a bale and picked up some ProMix Organic Vegetable and Herb soil from Zehrs for a few bucks a bag to compare. The ProMix appeared to have more organic matter (heavier, not as 'dusty' as the StepWell) and gave me a more bountiful crop. Stepwell seemed to run out of nutrients very quickly during flower. I have tried Happy Frog and other organic soils in the past, and they all seemed heavier and had a more organic texture. Stepwell seems much lighter on the nutes than others. This is not always bad thing - it depends on plant species and age.Quality, rich organic soils for flowers are usually too 'hot' for baby plants. My plants were from seed, and the ones in the ProMix did seem a little less healthy as seedlings (a hotter organic mix) and the ones in the SS did great, but in the end the ProMix Organic mix had much bigger and healthier flowers. The nutrients in the Stepwell soil simply weren't enough to last.So my review is that while it works for small plants/germinating seeds to prep for transplanting, it isn't suitable for heavy flowering plants without additional nutrients. Probably great for micro-greens more than heavily fruiting plants.

I bought into the Instagram hype, sadly. This is a highly inferior product. I strongly suspect the manufacturers are aware of this, which is why they target 'stoners' instead of greenhouse production. In fact, even some of the reviews on here are very suspect; clicking on the high ratings from people, I wonder why a 'foodie' would review a garden soil? Very happy to have tested this indoors over the winter before choosing it for food production in the greenhouse...if I had used this in the greenhouse, next winter our cellars wouldn't be nearly as full. My recreational Cannabis plants showed me just how bad this soil is, and I am thankful to have learned this prior to a big, bulk purchase. When I brought up the performance to the store that sold it to me, they said they were reducing the stock they carry and now after testing only carry it for the people who specifically ask for it". Tells you quite a bit when a store blatantly tells you 'this stuff isn't very good

Just finished my first full grow from start to finish using stepwell soil, stepwell top dress and em1. This was by far my best grow to date. It was also the easiest grow to take care of, I contribute that to the soil having everything you need for start to finish grow. I have won a few giveaways with stepwell, make sure your following them on instagram to get involved and win. I just received a gift with my last order for customer appreciation. Thank you. I ordered two of the new products stepwell soil carries called rigain plant wash and a biolarvicide. These are both new products to help with pathogens and pests. If you want to learn more about the products head to the website. Also I learn so much about growing just being a follower on instagram and watching there posts and stories. It's not even that much more money from a regular bale of soil. It's it's no brainer for me, always buy stepwell. If you havent tried stepwell soil i highly recommend you do, you will not be disappointed. Appreciate all you do for our community. Thank you.

Love this place, not sure what happened to my review on Google but it was here this is weird. Very sorry to hear you are out of business. I was a regular buyer of your products. it is too bad, I need to find a new top dressing to apply. That being said, would you guys be willing to share your recipe/ratios for both your veg and bloom top dressing? It would be greatly appreciated.

StepWell Soil
This product is misleading; it is by far not a 'water-only' product. It runs out of nutrients very quickly and needs to be amended. This is where things get difficult; I am trying to amend a 4x4 raised bed I had unfortunately filled with this stuff (previous crops in this bed were MUCH, MUCH better; I was incredibly disappointed with my final yield). Calling people who truly understand biological soils, Black Swallow Soils, they could not even tell me what was required to 'fix' this soil. They told me that since Stepwell Soil does not publish ingredient amounts, or publish soil reports, they didn't even know where to begin in correctly amending the soil and stated they had heard of these issues repeatedly with this product. At $60+ per bale (twice the price and less volume than ProMix), and then the cost of amendments, it is simply a very poor value. Save yourself the money and disappointment.EDIT POST OWNER REPLY: All variables were the same other than the soil. This soil is primarily peat and lacks sufficient organic amendment amounts per cubic foot. Provide a soil report showing percentages and amounts of ingredients per bale to demonstrate otherwise. It's called SCIENCE.

I wont use any other soil. Great customer service and you can't beat the price. All organic soil, dry amendments and all in-between.

Man was I stoked to find this company. But I was significantly less stoked to find out they buy their amendments in bulk from Black Swallow Soils.I was even less stoked to discover their water only" soil resulted in great vegetative growth
