Castle Towers - Hazelview Properties

Whatever you do....DO NOT LIVE HERE. Decent location, good tenants, nice custodial staff, great superintendent, all within a COMPLETELY incompetent company. Maybe its better at other properties they manage, but definitely not here. Terrible in terms of respect to tenants, communication with tenants, and quality of apartments (yes, even the new ones that I've seen) both from the appliances to the ability to heat/cool your apartment.

Mike who takes care of maintenance around the buildings at 1171 Wellington is fantastic. Reliable, punctual and if you ask for help, you only need to ask once and it will be taken care of. Very professional.

I’ve had about three maintenance request and they have all been addressed within the same day or the next. They get the job done and address all my concerns!

Impossible to contact about listings

Stood up for a leasing tour. My time is precious, and was wasted. I showed up for my appointment with Leah that was confirmed by email and had a reminder even sent a few hours prior. I looked up the phone number and called to ask if Leah was on her way and was told she does not even work Saturdays. The woman on the phone offered to come in an hour or reschedule. I opted not to reschedule. The reviews are already bad on google and now I know first-hand why. Don’t waste your time.

I chose to write a review for Castle Towers, as I felt it was an opportunity to show gratitude to the building management & owners.Our current building manager has been with us for half a decade now, and has been a great addition to the on-site staff. Maintenance requests are dealt with promptly and efficiently, and the extra efforts exhibited over the years are nice to see.The building owners have also worked to address the complaints which were common in other reviews.Concerns such as:• Water Shutdowns• Elevators• Heating• Building CleanlinessAn investment in water line isolation valves was made. Now when repairs are required, planned or unplanned, generally only units on the impacted water line are affected.The original elevators were modernized some years back, and issues with support seem to have been addressed.Heating, is very much an individual tenant experience. Personal taste, and the tenant’s unit, often seem to be the main factors for the variances we each feel.Building cleanliness, in terms of effort by staff, is great.When reading reviews here, you may notice a common positive being location. It is very true, and that point has been relevant to me.• Access to transit. The closest light rail station is about a 10-minute walk. There are bus routes nearby, with one in front of the building.• The Parkdale farmers market is across the street. Offering springtime planting essentials, seasonal produce during the summer & fall, as well as pumpkins & Christmas trees.• Access to diverse grocery is within walking distance. If you are willing to bus or drive a bit, the large chains are accessible also.• The niche shops are plentiful.• Walking. Just pick a direction and explore. The Ottawa River pathway (which is a part of the Trans-Canada Trail system), Dow’s Lake (Tulip Festival), Maple Lawn Garden (Small summer garden), Little Italy, China Town, the downtown core… all accessible.The view from my unit is exceptional. Besides the view itself, the small extras are Canada Day & Casino Lac-Lemay fireworks during the summer, as well the Snow Birds aviation team on July 1st .Most importantly, the community on the whole is good. While the neighbors have changed in my time here, most residents have been nice to know.

Let’s put it this way…I’m currently living at my boyfriend’s one bedroom apartment with our 7 week old son because my (and other resident’s) apartments don’t have power. They sent a notice out last week that they would be shutting off power and water for 12 hours and that residents should “make other arrangements”?! The power didn’t return for multiple residents afterwards and we were told that nothing would be done about it until the next day. This is just one problem I’ve encountered with Hazelview and I’ve only lived in this building for a year. The staff who work at this building are great but can only do so much or provide limited information, and are probably very frustrated with the number of complaints they receive. Most of the tenants are also fantastic. It’s the company that is mismanaged. They treat their tenants with total disrespect and communication coming from Hazelview is terrible. I’m constantly bombarded with notices regarding building maintenance so it’s hard to live life peacefully in this building. Live elsewhere if you can. Had a clogged sink at 1161 Wellington and had Mike drop by to take a look and he managed to fix it very quickly. Very punctual, polite and takes good care of maintenance and building in general. Thank you Mike!
