Wonderful & friendly service. Cottman Transmission was able to look at my car the day I called and resolved the issue without breaking the bank. My new go-to auto shop in the HRM.

You won't find better service. I dropped in asking about my car problem and the owner quickly went for a drive with me so he could see for himself. Sure beats other shops that just say drop it off and we will try to take a look. Cottmans did the repair in a couple days and half the cost i would have expected. Highly recommend

Excellent service; demonstrated that they care and put in real effort, where a few other unrelated shops did not, to figure out what the problem was in my transmission. More than fair service.

brought my rear differental too these guys for reassembly. fairly strightforward job for a transmission shop! they lost bolts and left seals out of the transmission returning to me a little bag of what they clamed to be spare parts... after argueing with them about the parts and explaneing where the parts were suposed to be they decided to put them in. they also almost lost a crucial seal for the dif lock citing it was not in the kit. the fellow agreed to take a look around on the floor for it and later found it in his tool chest! they quoted me no more than 200" for the job but at the end for no explanation they decided it was a almost $400 job! if you are thinking about taking anything to these guys i sugest you save your money and go elsewhere they are not professional and the manager there is quite rude and likes cutting people off while talking and then gets anoyed because he doesn't understand the situation. im sure there are backyard mechanics out there that are more professional than these guys"

Took my car in to get my transmission fixed approx. 3 yrs ago. Since then, i have had no problems with my transmission. I recently returned with an unrelated issue with my car and they were able to resolve the problem. Great service! Definitely recommend!

Joe charged us 2500 dollars for a supposed full rebuild with a 2 year warranty no specified km . 28 k later the transmission is burnt , you can scrape the sediment off of the filter ( I have pictures ) and he will not warranty it without charging us 900 dollars minimum . harassed us verbally , and gave us poor customer service as well as an extremely bad build which has been confirmed by another certified transmission mechanic . almost like he charged us for a full rebuild and just did a service on it . do not go here !!!!

Completely helped me with my problem and told me the truth about my transmission.....it was broken at all! Most of us don't understand the inner workings of a car, and we trust honest professionals to tell us what's wrong. Jim is that kind of guy. Going elsewhere in Halifax for my car repairs is now off the table. Jim and his guys are my shop. Thank you Jim!

Neglected to replace a $13.00 part. Instead, used silicone to repair leaking adapter. Car had to be towed to another service outlet costing an additional $540. Owner, Joe refused to accept responsibility for negligence. Refused settlement. “Let the judge decide” - his words.

I thought for sure my little old VW convertible was dead after simultaneous transmission fluid, oil and antifreeze leaks, but Joe was able to save it for me with a quick turnaround and for a great price. He was very polite and accommodating and even fixed up some other minor issues for free. My new favourite place!
