The Kitchener Academy of Music

Enrolling my kid at Kitchener Academy of Music is probably one of the best decisions I've taken of late . The instructors and staff in TKAM are wonderful and take a holistic approach in instilling an appreciation and love for music which invariably takes the stressors off and allows the kids (and grown-ups alike) to climb up the ladder with ease. The opportunities we get in terms of bi-annual recitals, numerous camps etc. further help in improving the confidence and creativity by leaps and bounds. Kudos to Kandice and the team for making TKAM what is ! And a big shout-out to Sidney who has been a fantastic teacher :)

Both my teenagers decided they wanted to learn an instrument this year. Sidney and Lauren both worked to keep them engaged with lessons at their beginner level while still being age appropriate. This is very encouraging for both girls and helps to foster their love of music!

My children have been learning musical instruments here for almost a year. I've quit now. Because this place is unprofessional and irresponsible. First, the instructor frequently cancels lessons due to his or her personal schedule and does not care about the canceled lessons. I had to write e-mails several times to rejoin the canceled class. They canceled classes, but they never mention lessons. Second, because of the bad weather, the instructor changes the piano lesson online on the day of class. Who wants to take piano lessons online? Third, I had the money I paid for the first academy registration fee, but I didn't get it back. They have to return the registration fee when I leave the academy but you know they don't have any mention so I wrote an email about tuition three times but they didn't understand. Finally, all piano classes were canceled by the academy, but they just watched over the canceled classes and I had to make a promise to recreate the canceled classes. The same goes for tuition. Frequent teacher changes and frequent employee changes, so there is a communication problem and no responsibility at all. I was fed up with having to email and check my schedules and decided not to send my children to the academy in a year.

Such a great place! I have two kids taking lessons, their teachers are great. There is so much learning happening while sustaining the joy of music, playing the type of music and songs that interests them. The studio itself is so friendly, easy and well organized. They pivoted so seamlessly to online during lockdowns, I was blown away at how on it they were! They also put themselves out there for extras, recording students for a virtual concert, boredom busters during lockdown, etc. Just a lovely group of people!

A highly recommended place! My son has been learning piano online since last year and so far it has been the best experience. His teacher Elizabeth is awesome, understands the way my son likes to learn and makes it so comfortable, interactive and fun for him to learn music on a virtual platform. The concerts are so well organized. I am so happy that I chose TKAM for my son.

Kandice is an amazing piano teacher and has a wonderful personality with kids and adults. Her love of music and passion shows in every lesson. Her front desk manager Syd is very responsive and nice; 5 stars Academy.

I was nervous to start lessons again as an adult, as someone who hadn't touched their instrument in over a decade. Joining TKAM over a year ago turned out to be a great decision, and has rekindled my love for playing violin. As it turns out, there is a sizeable adult community here amongst all the kids, and even events catering to mature students. The staff is very friendly, the instructors are fantastic, and I have appreciated the flexibility with instructors being able to offer lessons both virtually and at the school.

My children have all been taking various music lessons (piano, drums and voice) from TKAM for a few years. We have had nothing but positive experiences with all of the teachers from the school. They are incredibly professional and their passion for music and teaching is evident every single lesson (special shout out to Kandice, Beatrix and Ryan!). I highly recommend this school if you are considering music lessons for yourself or for your children.

I’m an adult learner who’s learning violin with Lauren. Lauren’s teaching is so tailored to the student that I can feel how change in my posture/the way I play/use the bow affect my playing almost immediately. She really observe and would try different methods with me to help me improve. Her teaching is easy to understand and very cute that I’m sure the younger learners would enjoy too.
