Staff were nice and helpful especially lady at reception. Don't forget to call for appartement.

Unfriendly and unhelpful woman at the visa window should be fired. Immediately. Our presence was clearly an inconvenience to her day. We drove over two hours for our appointment. We brought everything listed on the consulate website (and more). She made up extra requirements that were either not listed or were different than the official list. They are only open for one hour and it's impossible to get the extra stuff in downtown Calgary in that amount of time. All this for a simple transit visa. Why gamble another day off work and all that fuel for a second appointment if this is how we will be treated? This is not a good look for Japan. I do not give one-star reviews lightly. This one is well-deserved. I will ask my MP to request a formal response to this rude and unfriendly behavior.

I went there twice, in 2019 and recently. In general, strange problems happened every time.1. The officers have trouble understanding their own regulations. Before I went there, I was not sure about some info written on their offical website. I called them to double check, their officer mentioned something different, and when I got there, another officer at the service window told us totally different information. I eventually got 3 different versions of answer about 1 simple issue, so I had to drove back home to get extra documents and rushed back to catch their weird working time.2. The officers' oral English is bad and their face masks make it even worse. I bet the best English speaking appears in their automatic calling system and the second best is the Chinese guy at the security check.3. The officers' lack of common sense about Canadian society. In Japan, a legally married couple, which have to be a man and a woman, must use the same family name. These officers seemed take this for granted and made mistake. This condition even happend after we wrote EVERYTHING on the documents and spoke to them face to face once more.4. Their working process and methods are out of date. People cannot pay for fees online/ through email transfer/by card, and you will have to went to the office personally just to get a visitor's visa or transit visa especially for people live in Canada butoriginally from some specific countries.I sincerely feel sorry for these officers, but I don't know how to encourage them to improve, so I will try to complain to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan.

Unfriendly receptionist. Came here 10 min earlier than appointment and was asked to go downstairs and wait in the building lobby. Could not even stay at the same floor outside of their office.

There are couple points that might help you with your appointment with them:1. Call between 10-11am or 2-3pm (they only accept phone appointment booking and only able to book through these two time slots)2. Arrive the 9th floor ONLY 5 mins early, or you may wait at the washroom/downstairs till it’s almost time for you to get in.3. The location is located at the 9th floor of a business building4. Bring all documents that they listed on the web and things would go smoothly & quickly than what you expected :)

Staff and security are very polite.

Staff is friendly and efficient. A very pleasant experience for us.
