Fort Street Cycle

Purchased a new bike over the winter of 2021. The whole process was perfect, from the many emails back and forth with sales staff deciding on the parts, to the bike fit from Mike, and then the final tweaks to the setup. Very welcoming and capable service staff - and the Tuesday night rides in the summer are social and spirited. Great group of folks and and a big selection of quality bikes and accessories.

I have been a Fort Street client for decades. I enjoy the location, layout of the store and for many years I have enjoyed the customer service and level of support. I noticed quite a few changes since the change in ownership a few years ago but found the level of friendliness from the new staff helped make up for any shortcomings.This summer I brought in my p3 for a full-service overhaul, while the work was done in time, once I got back on the bike, I felt that the level of performance was not what I had experienced in the past for work done, parts replaced and cost. I brought the bike back and asked them to dial it in. While they accepted the additional work, I found the chief mechanic to be begrudging and when the bike was retuned it performed a bit better but still was not at the level of quality I expected in terms of performance or cleanliness.Around the same time, I dropped of my mountain bike and asked them to look to see what work might need to be done. I asked them to please contact me with a quote depending on what they found. Instead, when they contacted me, it was to tell me that they had completed a full overhaul to the tune of almost $300. When I picked up the bike, I noticed that again, the performance was not in line with the level of service and cost. In fact, when I checked it over it seemed like no work had been done except replacing the chain which was something that I had not asked for and did not need to be done as the bike was only 2 years old and did not have the amount of ride time to account for a new chain. It also felt that no derailleur adjustments had been made for the new chain. I also noticed a new sound when I spun my back wheel that had not been present before. I took the bike back and asked them to look. This time I found the shop staff (not the sales staff) to be outright hostile. They made a few minor adjustments and when I asked about the sound, they told me it was a bent disc rotor. When I told them the issue was not present when I brought the bike in, they told me I was welcome to purchase a replacement part. Then I had a mechanic friend look at the bike and they advised me that as I suspected some of the work, I had been charged for had not been completed.It’s clear that Fort St is no longer interested in offering any level of service, support or customer satisfaction. They have continued to raise the costs for their labour while the quality has deteriorated. If you are considering taking your business there, I suggest you find another shop as I now have.

I recently had a custom built bike at this bike shop, and I can honestly say it was a great experience. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. They helped me pick out the best parts for my bike and made sure to answer all my questions. When I received my bike, it was everything I hoped for. The craftsmanship was top notch. I could not be happier with my purchase and will be back for my future bike needs. Shout out to Adam, Rhy, and Mike!

The reputation and brand experience of a retail establishment is completely dependent on front line employees. Having visited nearly every bike store in Victoria looking for two new road bikes it was Adam at Fort Street Cycle that made the difference for selecting this store as the best choice. Fort St Cycle is the best in town. I've now purchased four bikes from them, as well as countless other items. All of the staff, both front of house & mechanics are knowledgeable and friendly.Through knowledge, as well as proper bike fitting Fort St has helped me go from newby cyclist to avid enthusiast.Mikes bike fitting is top notch. I have a terrible right knee but have been able to grow to a point where 100KM+++ rides are easy, and never result in knee pain.Ignore any negative google reviews, and remember to check the dates of when they are posted....Thanks guys!

I should have written this a couple of years ago. This is the BEST bike store in town with the BEST staff. I’m an old guy who re-started biking about eight years ago and the staff are so supportive and helpful and welcoming whenever I need some help. I highly recommend the store and the people who work there.

I was biking home and had an issue with my bike, Fort Street Cycle was about to close but they still waited for me to get there after I called and helped me. Ryan and the other workers were amazing! They also have great accessories like bike lights, bells etc. Highly recommend, the service is wonderful and the employees are friendly!

On vacation and I had a small issue that required some tools/time from the guys at a shop. I called a few other places and they declined the work. Dan at Fort Street was awesome on the phone and even better in person. He fixed all issues on the spot and even made time to true my wheel. Hands down the friendliest and most helpful shop - thanks guys!

I had my bike fitted by Mike at Fort Cycle and tuned up by the excellent service crew there a week before my first Olympic triathlon. The advice and expertise that I received from Mike and others at Fort Cycle truly made an enormous difference to my performance on the bike. The bike was perfectly calbrated for an efficient and comfortable ride!! I highly recommend for anyone who is cycling a lot to have your bike set up optimized by Mike! It is 100% worth it!!
