Rooms are nicd, stayed in a private room in the basement, the hostel was the old hospital, it's also a museum. It's spooky but cheap! Would recommend

I love the hostel! It has so much character and it is so interesting to learn of the role that the cottage hospital had in the small out port communities of Newfoundland. The little medical equipment museum is fascinating. The facilities are a little spartan, but it is very relaxed and comfortable. The view from the upstairs deck is spectacular! I have stayed there many times.

I was here for a live show from Murder Murder. It was a good time and one of the hostels staff (or at least I thought they worked there) showed me around to the rooms. The rooms on the top floor have an amazing view looking out the mouth of Bonne Bay. Cheap and deadly.

We loved our stay at the Old Cottage Hostel. Because of Covid, the top floor is now rented as a single unit, with two bathrooms, well-stocked kitchen, common room, the bedrooms listed, and a raised deck with picnic table. We loved having the privacy and the space to spread out. If you are staying on the hottest summer days, be sure to get the windows open (carefully!) and start some fans going.Gros Morne Park is one of the jewels of our globe. This is a remote area, and part of the interest of the hostel/former hospital setting is that it speaks to the reality of past life in these parts. Norris Point itself is an ideal setting for exploring the whole area. Take the 2 hour kayak trip leaving from near the town dock, and don't miss Western Brook Pond, at least the 3 km path approaching the pond.Joanie C., who has worked to keep the community center in which the hostel is located open, is a wealth of information and a generous hostess. (She also works as a physical therapist, but in my experience she was always very quick to respond to queries, and absolutely reliable in everything. Contact her directly or the hostel e-mail address a day or two in advance of your arrival to arrange for access to the hostel. An unforgettable trip for our family.

Pretty cool place. An old cottage hospital. Poor air quality in the lower level. Very spacious and great location. I hope they are able to continue to restore the building. Very dated slow wifi sometimes. I would still recommend this as a unique experience. There is a radio station, art studio, massage therapy and physio onsite

This hostel is a unique community itself! I loved it so much that I came back a second time and spent a week. The first time was quiet, very relaxing and the second time was lot of fun with the Trails Tales and Tunes festival going on. There are a lot life there, you wouldn’t belie it (hostel of course, green house, public library, massage therapy clinic, local radio office, ...). It is so great to offer a second life to this once cottage hospital. I had the chance to deal with Bob and Joany who both used to work there when it was a hospital. They really did their best to accommodate me in a busy time due to the festival. Thank you so much! Definitely recommand the stay!

Great place to stay! Visited during the winter. Accommodations were clean and the staff were friendly! Will stay here again during next visit.

The folks running the hostel were very kind and accommodating. The hostel itself has a strange ambience, but is to be expected since it's an old hospital. The upstairs kitchen is nice and the common area is nice and cozy. The view over the water from the rooftop patio is amazing!

Found the facilities misleadingly advertised; the building is shared with a library, chiropractor, and masseuse, and is not a hostel with a mini museum of a hospital room as the website implies.Staff were awol throughout the visit. The hostel cellphone was not answered; other guests had to let me in and show me the rooms available. I was asked to pay halfway through my stay, but there wasn't anyone on site to receive the payment.Easier contact with staff would be much appreciated, as well as hours when we can expect to be able to check in.Free laundry (shared with the chiropractor) was a bonus. Facilities were clean. There is a dog that barks incessantly in the neighbouring property.

This place is not nice!!! But still cool!!It's an hold hospital which they are trying to keep around. There are is still a lot of old hospital stuff here. It's also the towns radio station and library. So it's cool. If you wanna film a creepy movie this is your place. If you have watched to many scary movies and end up in a basement room by yourself you might be scared to death. There was some confusion about out booking but the staff/volunteers were super nice and accommodating. We did not meet anyone the whole time we were there.
