Great atmosphere. The restaurant is designed like a 50s breakfast diner. I love going there just for the vibes. The food itself is average (I recommend getting their soup of the day), price is also average, customer service is good.

One of the best spots for a dine-in at the UWaterloo plaza. The place is set in a vintage style with great ambience.In terms of food, there are plenty of options for an all day breakfast/brunch/lunch to choose. The service is reasonably fast, however you may expect a 10-15 min wait time to find a table ( peak times) as it can get busy.

Loved the vibes and the breakfast food is delicious. We both got milkshakes - chocolate and strawberry. Ordered the breakfast poutine and an omelette. Both were awesome. Cant wait to go back.

Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Our group was around 13 people and there were lots of space early in the morning when it first opens (it does get quite busy later in the day and in the evenings/nights). The ambiance is bright with retro designs and very aesthetic. The food itself is good. Got the Lobster Benedict - the poached egg was cooked well but the fries were a bit on the drier side. Mel’s is also known for its milkshake so those are a must try! Overall great diner to try if in the area!

Mel’s was once my top brunch spot, a place I held dearly with a special place of my heart. The last two times I was there though, I think things have changed and there wasn’t too much special in their food. The portions were smaller than I remembered, and the actual food wasn’t outstanding. I still love the vibe but I think I’d only come here for the atmosphere and with friends, instead of for the food.

The place looks good but the food is not up to the standards. Our food wasn't even hot when they served it. Food felt dry, burnt & their homefries were stale. The quality didn't seem good either. Food isn't worth it but for a retro diner experience it's okay.

The best dinner to come to if you're looking for a retro style place to eat at! It's a great place to come with friends and family.There's lots of options to choose from between breakfast and lunch meals. I got the chicken and waffles ($14.99) and it was very filling and delicious! I loved that the syrup had a little spice which elevated the meal.The atmosphere is great and the staff are nice as well! It can get busy so definitely come early if you're looking to get breakfast/brunch.

I recently visited Mel's Diner for brunch and had an overall positive experience.The atmosphere was charming and welcoming, and the staff was polite and attentive throughout my visit.I ordered the Meat Lovers Skillet, which was flavorful and filling, though the sausage and bacon were a bit overcooked and slightly burnt. Despite this small issue, I still enjoyed my meal and appreciated the great service.I would recommend this restaurant to others looking for a cozy spot to grab a bite to eat!

Went here for brunch with my bestie and had the greatest time! Amazing gluten free menu and the service was fantastic! Love a restaurant that transports you back in time, looks and feels like a 50s diner. Place was clean and you can tell there is a level of care in the food and the place. Will definitely come back again!

This is one of the Best breakfast restaurants in Waterloo region. It’s got the 50s/60s Retro diner look with a working Juke Box. The staff is very friendly and efficient. A group of 50 were being served when we arrived but they immediately got us seated and served us our breakfast in a very timely manner. We ordered their breakfast special and a eggs Benedict option and it was perfectly cooked. The rates are very reasonable as well. The breakfast special is $6.99 before 10am. Highly recommended.
