12 years ago I admitted myself to Vests House. It wasn't my choice, but my family had their say.I found the rules awkward and sometimes demeaing.Instead of the staff clearly stating the rules etc., it was the present housemates who were to tell us newbies how things were done.I was sent back into the hallway at bedtime meds because I did not knock" "stop" "wait". I would have remembered next time

Please take my view with a grain of salt. Vesta might work quite well for some people, so please do your own research and draw your own conclusions BEFORE you decide to go there. What I can do is provide some truthful facts based on my experience that I wish someone had told me BEFORE I was referred there by OAARS:1. There is an EXTREMELY heavy feminist slant to the programming. Not the feminism that means equality – the kind that blames it all on men. If you are gender-fluid, questioning, two spirit or wanting to transition to become a man this is NOT the place for you. They told me (politely but only after I’d made my plans to leave) that they didn’t believe they could treat me (I respectfully agreed – no love lost!). Still though, should any treatment facility be able to say that? They even took away my axe body wash right after a shower despite the fact that even the staff used lotions that smelled like The Bay counter exploded.2. The basement floods every spring for the last 27 years and no one has done anything about it. When I mentioned that the puddles were visibly approaching the wires for their entertainment system I was told to ‘stick to the program’. Completely ignored. Someone could be seriously hurt.3. There is NO smoking allowed. That’s fine and healthy, but what I didn’t like was that I was continually pressured to take NRT (patches, lozenges, gum, inhalers...etc) when I did not need it in the slightest since I was just a casual smoker. They are given a certain amount of funding by the Ministry for this and if they don’t use those patches etc they will lose that funding, I assume.4. You will be told things on your intake interview that aren’t true or conflict with other staff members. ALL your possessions go into a freezer for 96 hours due to the bedbug policy. Understandable, but not when you were told you could keep your journal etc... perhaps it was a mere miscommunication but I stressed that I needed MY journal, not some crappy notebook given to me in replacement. My art supplies all got frozen too.5. You can’t have magazines, music, or personal reading material until week 7 of the program! Even prisoners can have magazines... No headphones for music ever. Only speakers. The only radio station you can listen to is The Jewell.I could go on and on (this was a 14 reason review but the character limit was FAR exceeded!), but the point is that I’m NOT you and you know what’s best for you. These are just the facts of what I disliked about my Vesta Recovery experience. If the staff happen to read this I am well aware that they’ll know instantly which client I was. I hid nothing while I was there and I certainly do not intend to start now. Something about being only as sick as your secrets? The pen is mightier than the sword. I’m doing quite well for myself in my sobriety still. I’m proud of myself for leaving when I did on the terms I did. Vesta wasn’t for me. Please consider very carefully if it’s for you before you go there because starting again at square one with OAARS takes time. All the best in your recovery. Never give up.

Vesta Recovery Program For Women
Vesta Recovery Program for Women has a lot guidelines...I, too, looked at them as crazy rules when I first arrived. I made the decision to go to Vesta because I was finally ready to change my life. It was the best decision I ever made. I needed the structure and the safety of feeling like I was at home. The staff treated me with the same respect I showed them.Coming from a life of using, lies, and manipulation I welcomed the plan laid in front of me if I chose to stay. I completed the 12 week program and I am so thrilled that I did. The program is set up the way it is for a reason. It teaches you how to live and feel. I will forever be grateful for the support the staff gave me as I grew and started to love myself again. I look forward to returning for the annual Christmas dinner...and to sing our song. Thank you for my life today Vesta

If you're dealing with something that's addictive like drugs or alcohol or gambling or food, Vesta is the best place for women the skills building program is impeccable and teaches you more than you will ever learn on your own or online. Do yourself a favour if you're dealing with something that is ruining your life such as and addiction make a self referral. You'll be doing yourself the best thing ever. I have read through all of the reviews good bad and indifferent. You can't listen play the bad stuff without knowing that there is a ton of good stuff take my word for give them a call have a chat with the director or one of the qualified staff members and I guarantee you won't regret it.

I haven't been there but as I am looking for a recovery facility just reading the reviews how is this place even allowed to be open. More of our tax dollars wasted. Thanks to the women brave enough to tell how things really r happening there.

It should be called Vesta; Bootcamp for Addicts Without Compassion." It is run in a manner that disallows even the strongest of people to have a voice or an opinion. Rules are not to be questioned. Ever. Fall in line
