Beautiful historic icon. There are a few informative signs around the area to fill you in on the history of the towers. Also a beautiful park to relax and enjoy the tower from.

Shoal Tower (1847) opposite Kingston City Hall, Ontario, Canada, was erected by the British to protect the entrance to the Rideau Canal. A second Martello tower is just across Kingston Harbor and there were two more in the area.

Shoal Tower is a Martello tower located in the harbour (Confederation Basin) of Kingston, Ontario, Canada, directly opposite Kingston City Hall. It is one of four such towers built in the 1840s to protect Kingston's harbour and the entrance to the Rideau Canal.“滩塔” 是一座马泰罗(Martello)塔,位于金斯敦的港口(联邦盆地),金斯敦市政厅正对面。 它是 1840 年代建造的四座此类塔楼之一,用于保护金斯敦的港区和里多运河的入口。

The Shoal Tower is a remnant of British - American tensions following the War of 1812. It was built as fortifications to provide defence for the shipyard as well as the entrance to Rideau Canal at Kingston Mills, towards the capitol of Ottawa.Nowadays, the Shoal Tower is a historic site on Kingston’s waterfront. It is not available to be visited but can be viewed from afar as part of strolling through Confederation Park and the docks.
