I've had so much success with the Drouin / La France records. I love how they tie into the PRDH. I would recommend these resources to anyone doing French Canadian research. Both are MUSTS!

I always use the Lafrance database initially because I can vary my searches to find records with name changes or misspellings and enjoy the PRDH familiy information. Continue to expand the databases!

My go to site for Drouin records also some Acadian records. Multiple ways to search have had very few occasions when I could not find an ancestor I was looking for. They are constantly adding new records. The copies of the pages of the Drouin are very clear and easy to read. If you have Canadian ancestors this is the place to seach.

Excellent work, need to carry on to 1900s...worthy project... my paternal grandfather (Rodrigue Savard) born in Oct 1890 or 1891 in Cache Bay ON, can not find any birth record of him (two Census, but dad says likely not accurate).. Only marriage record in 1917 but no mention of mother. Thanks.

The Drouin Institute and PRDH are an absolute treasure for anyone doing French Canadian genealogy. They have completed a prodigious amount of research and made it available on line.Original records are linked to English translations. PRDH family reconstruction records list not only parentage and marriages, but also the birth, death and marriage records of their children. All of which help guide you to their original records.And this is just the tip of the iceberg. I find their scans of original records to be more readable than other sites. Their pricing structure is modest as well. They are my go to resource.

As a non professional genealogist, I find the research site to be more helpful when researching French Canada for my family and others from the early days of New France in Canada East and records going forward from those early times. I really wonder how they survived as many did not .

Institut genealogique Drouin is a Franco-American's genealogical motherload! It isn't as intuitive as one would hope, but once you dig around there is lots to see. I was thrilled to talk with Robert and Sebastien at the NERGC in April. Once you get your family to Quebec this is the site to put everything together. From the Blue Drouin to the collection of Baptismal, Marriage and Burial records, this is the place to look for French Canadian ancestors.
