Newcastle Island
I camped here for a few days. It was a wonderful experience. The island is amazing with lots of beautiful scenery and wildlife. The staff there are friendly and helpful and work hard to maintain the place.

Fantastic location to easily spend a whole day. Great views all around and so much wildlife. Come for a picknick, bike ride or anything you like by riding the ferry over (yes, you can bring your bike in board). Or even better, rent them from Jeff's Rentals on the island as he is an amazing person and the rates are very affordable. Paddle over to the dinghy dock pub for a bite to eat and a drink. You can even camp on this island. It's perfect.

Great place to go for a hike or kayak maybe both!!! lots of wildlife and great views! Be sure to give yourself lots of time to explore the whole island and if you plan to camp you'll want to make sure you secure a spot as they fill up fast. Bring lots of water and snacks and don't share with the racoons no matter how cute they seem.

This place circa 2019 used to be one of the best campsites in BC. It was well run, and with bike in/walk in it avoided the party crowd. Unfortunately that is no longer the case. The Concession prices are high, food is mediocre and it’s party central now. Especially if they plan to host a wedding as weddings bring in so much money the owners look the other way . They have changed their business model and run weddings all summer on Saturday, parties start Friday night (they make more $$ from one wedding than from months of camping fees) …avoid the weekends for camping in July and August!!

Place is amazing!!! a Nanaimo hidden gem didn't know this place existed coming out there, was suggested to me staying at the Vancouver island residences went and checked it out for a day hike learned there was camping and came back and stayed for 5 days, it was during the week and the island was pretty empty, was tranquil, there was deer everywhere and they were pretty fearless they'd walk right through the campsites (raccoons in daylight too!) walking through the forest you felt like an ant walking through the grass most of the trees are enormous , had the beach to myself, saw purple starfish, the staff were great, and the burgers from the concession were pretty good. Plan to come back!!

We love taking the ferry over and spending the day exploring. We brought friends over this time with our dogs and it is now a new place for them to frequent. There is lots of parking close to where the ferry leaves. We hiked along the trails which were well groomed and signed. There’s a couple of areas that are hard to locate such as the mine shaft etc. which could have better signage as you are going along.Lots of great views, wildlife and sea life to enjoy!Staff are all super friendly and there are lots of toilet facilities (outhouse) throughout the park. There is a small store/food area that sells shirts, ice cream etc.The fairy runs quite often in the summer, every half hour and takes up to 40 passengers. Later at night and during the off-season they sometimes run the smaller boat with only takes approximately 12.On low tide you can walk over to Protection Island and go for a bite to eat at the local pub.
