Sonder The Wellesley
This is one of the worst rooms I've ever stayed in and would absolutely not recommend staying here.I booked the room knowing that it was on the cheaper end for Toronto, so whilst I wasn't expecting anything particularly luxurious, what we got was far worse than I could have anticipated. Myself and a friend booked a double room and were given a 'unit' in the basement of the property. As soon as we entered the room, we were hit with a strong smell of damp, damp bedsheets and noticed that the floor was extremely dirty. I immediately complained to Sonder and asked for a different room, but they said there were none available. They immediately gave us a $150 refund and offered to get someone to come round that evening, but I had to explain that damp is not something that can be fixed in an evening. We then had to request a dehumidifier and air freshener was sent to our room.Whilst this was provided, it is absolutely unacceptable that any guest should have to request this at any point. Essentially, Sonder clearly know about the damp problem on this floor (I am not sure about rooms on the upper floors) and just hope that people put up with it. We noticed that the air con unit was covered in black mould and after we checked out of the property, both myself and my friend developed chesty colds.I sent another complaint email to Sonder explaining the above and was given another $200 refund, but I still do not believe this to be an adequate response and it's clear that they are just going to continue renting this disgusting room out to other guests. We originally paid £$1122 dollars for this state of a room for 4 nights, and with the refund this went down to $770.11. This is still a ridiculous amount of money to pay for a dirty, damp room where we barely managed to sleep due to the summer heat and ended up with an illness that lasted for the rest of our 2 week holiday. Shame on Sonder, I will never book with them again.

It was ok. It was on the cheaper side of Downtown Toronto accommodations, so I guess you get what you pay for. Subway noise was constant in Room 101. I would crank up the AC unit so as not to have to hear it. It was a tiny room, really only fit for 1 person. As I was preparing to check out, I stripped the bed and while folding the duvet I noticed a yellowish stain on its corner. Gross.I wouldn't go back here. It served my purpose for a long weekend in Toronto. Only plus: the staff was prompt in their responses on the app.3/5

AVOID AT ALL COST!!! False advertisement. The room was not as described and their refund policies was not as advertised. I stayed at Sonder in Wellesley St. E. Toronto, Ontario. One night during my stay I woke up to water leaking from the ceiling of my room. The walls. It took them almost 3 hours to move me to another room. They charged me more money the morning after and are unable to tell me why I was charged an extra 150$. I am not happy with the resolution. It has been 5 days of mediation and not one supervisor has reached out to me. I am pursuing a complaint with the better business bureau. If you had a terrible stay contact me via gmail and see if we can possibly come together in the complaint. Way overpriced!

Avoid at all costs. The description (elegant boutique hotel) is far from reality. This is a house on a very busy street, neglected facade, and once you pass the cheap entrance door after unlocking it with the provided code, you find a family house converted into a cheap motel of sorts. This is a virtual hotel, in the sense that there are no humans or reception desk, and you interact with support via an app. This could be a fine modern concept, except for cases where you might actually need help. Read on to find out why this might be a problem.I was supposed to stay for 3 nights. I found out my room was on the ground floor, with a window facing the noisy street, with poor noise isolation. The corridor layout is such that the house entrance (for guests) is exactly behind the bed head, guaranteeing you will hear guests coming in and out at all times of day and night. The toilet is set up in such a way that it feels pretty much next to the bed, with no door, noise or smell isolation. Boutique experience I guess. This can be a colorful neighborhood: just outside the entrance, a local was installed, smoking his crack pipe, evidently set up for the night. I wondered how loud him and potential friends could be, meters from my thin window.Bathroom, bed, couch, all seemed nice enough. But with the promise of noisy nights ahead of me, I decided I couldn't stay in this room, and left about 5 minutes after entering this hotel.I gave the staff a heads up immediately via the app: told them I left the hotel, told them will not stay that night, that I will not stay the two other nights, and explained why.Support was polite, but not actually helpful or (quite possibly) empowered to help. Over the next few days I had a few interactions with them. My main goal was to get a partial refund, at least for the unused two last nights. Or something. A commercial gesture of sorts.Unfortunately, the impersonal support was implacable. After promises to check with colleagues on this case, I was pointed once more to the cancellation policy and told I wouldn't qualify for any refund. Technically, factually correct -- but is that a good, recommendable guest experience? So, there you go. Given that there are plenty 3 stars commercial bland hotel chains around (plain, boring, but providing actual support and a sound sleep), should you really risk staying at the Sonder Wellesley? I have made up my mind, what do you think?

The room was small, but otherwise nice. The rooms do not have refrigerators, so upon request, the staff were nice enough to bring us a small bar fridge. Our issues were that we had no soap in the bathroom, despite requesting more, and the door to the room didn't lock. Otherwise, it was a decent experience.

Prepare yourself that it is not the traditional hotel" but an Air BNB style building with rooms locked with codes to enter and no front desk. Code and info is sent 3 days prior to your check in.Although no front desk

About my stay at Sonder Wellesley Toronto, 4 nights, Oct 2021:-During my online booking, i did not feel comfortable providing passport shots and being charged for my stay upfront. Also, it was not clear to me that the hotel would not have any staff, been operated through an app. Honestly, for me it is fine, but considering the price you pay, for a place without staff and no elevator, maybe at the end it was not worth it.- I was in room 103, in the basement. I could hear the subway noise. it personally did not bother me but it was not nice. I had read here the same comment 2 days before my arrival. I tried to change my room but they offered me a room at Sonder Queen St, which I would have to pay for the difference.- For my personal necessities, I wish I had had a small desk/ table in my room, an iron and definitely a refrigerator.- Although there were cameras, The storage room had no locks, so I did not feel safe to leave my belongings there. ( hotel said they are not responsible for your belongings).- The room was clean and the App was clear to be used.- Location is excellent.Overall, at the end it was ok but I would not stay there again. I would prefer to stay in a hotel where there were staff or have paid less for a hotel without staff/ less safety / and no elevator.

First, this hotel was rebranded/remodeled and possibly changed ownership over the last few years so keep that in mind when reading older reviews. I had a terrific time here! Since I usually stay in an Airbnb, this game me Airbnb like functionality and ease of use with hotel amenities. If you need a full service hotel with a front desk, please do not stay here. This is not the concept of Sonder. But if you’re looking for a cute room in downtown near a TTC station, this is a great find!

I stayed here in room #103 in August 2021.Here are some of the pros and cons.Pros:- Although small, the room is clean and comfortable. Perfect for a single traveller or a couple.- Easy check-in and check-out process. Pin code for entry.- There are AC, TV, wifi, towels, shampoo and body wash, hair dryer, coffee and tea, and extension cord.- Great location! It's a 3-minute walk from Wellesley station (less than a minute if you jaywalk). Lots of shops, restaurants, and attractions in walking distance.- You can't really hear the noise outside, but see con #1 below.- Personal note upon arrival which I found very sweet.Cons:- You can hear the subway running underground. For me, it's not loud, but noticeable. However, earplugs were provided.- The light from the smoke detector (or something else) flashes every 5 minutes. It's not noticeable when the lights are on, but once you are ready to go to bed, the flashing light becomes annoying.Overall, I would recommend this hotel just for the location itself, unless you are easily bothered by the subway train noise.

Pretty great location and value for money, room was cozy, but had everything you needed and lock code entry was very useful
