I really like some of the flavor combinations yugo is offering. The food is definitely tasty, however at times the portions seem very small. For example, the pasta although it was tasty it was not even close to filling. Nonetheless, I did become a fan of this place

Not a bad place, but not exceptional either. We spent $80 and I was still quite hungry at the end. The green tea is really good though! The good thing is they’re able to accommodate a gluten-friendly diet with some of their menu items, and can make simple rolls at your request that aren’t on the menu (see salmon avocado roll in photos). The salmon avocado roll was really good, probably one of the best I’ve had, but it was kind of expensive for a simple roll. The snow white roll fell very short of my expectations - it was effectively lettuce wrapped in daikon and had very little flavour, even with the beet purée. The presentation was lovely, but I wouldn’t recommend this roll unless you’re just craving salad. The bluefin tuna tasted good and wasn’t too expensive compared to other sashimi. Overall, I’d say this place would be fairly good if it wasn’t for the very high prices, which in my opinion don’t reflect accurately the value of the food.

A high level of care went into the interior, menu, food preparation, and order taking. We had an OpenTable reservation, so, the restaurant was aware of my 'no garlic no MSG' request. A very concerned owner explained that the only things I should have was sashimi since even some soya sauce may contain MSG. He insisted that he would make sure our salad dressing was served on the side (unfortunately, that didn't carry through to the Black Cod dish). We ordered Grilled Soy Maple Black Cod, Sockeye Salmon Sashimi, Cauliflower Salad, and House Bento. We didn't notice the garlic in the black cod, it was very well cooked and even the skin was edible, I found the fish a bit too salty. The Cauliflower Salad was a delight although I couldn't tell where the cauliflower was, the little white chunks tasted more like soft tofu, and the white leaves were definitely curly endive. But the taste of the salad was stunning, and we were reminded by the sunflower and flax seeds that we are in south Main. I particularly enjoyed the salmon sashimi – one would think that is such a common item served everywhere – but no, it's the texture and taste of this particular fish at Yugo that is outstanding. The House Bento was artistically served on a slate platter as the items would not have fitted in a Bento. It is always such a pleasure to explore various sample size menu items. The mixed vegetable dish with warmed Brussels sprouts, mushrooms and pieces of pork belly was a treat. The house made tamago was delicately tasty. Our picture showed a cup of tea because they chose to serve lichee oolong, so good! I did leave with a terrible taste in my mouth due to the garlicky salad dressing used on the Black Cod dish, frankly, I am surprised that they didn't bother making a garlic free dressing just for us. However, the rest of the food is worth at least another visit. So we went back for dinner. Our dinner experience (on a week night) was totally different than our lunch experience (on a Sunday). At dinner, the music was loud and high energy, and the patrons were talking very loudly – such that we could hardly hear each other even though we sat in a booth. The menu was different as well. We were not able to order the House Bento, and the Ghindara came with soba noodles which we weren't prepared to try. However, we did find the baked miso salmon enjoyable. My partner thought that the Brussels sprouts were too raw and didn't eat much of it. The temperature of the Hamachi sashimi was not as cold as we liked. The Cauliflower Salad that I loved was no longer available. So, this will be a lunch-only spot for us.

First time to be this restaurant, really feel impressive the presentation and quality of food here. My fist time since 8 months stayed in Vancouver to taste such variety of sashimi, and high standard of Japanese fusion food. I believe the best one so far I have tried in Vancouver , will definitely visit there again. The environment is really relaxing and comfortable. The servant I remember a girl named Artemis having a good smile. She and another male servant called Jo was giving us a very good suggestion on the menu. They also keep coming to fill up the water without us to requesting. They made our whole meal really enjoying.

Very interesting menu. Considered French Japanese fusion, I felt menu was very akin to an izakaya restaurant. High end prices with top notch ingredients. Overall I left satisfied but left wanting for more due to size of the plates for the price I paid. I ordered six plates to leave full for 2 of us. Not a regular night dinner restaurant but more suited for event dining.

Also tried the black cod. The cod itself was 5/5, however the base of noodles were a 1/5. I would just get the cod without the noodles.Overall I enjoyed this restaurant and thought the food was pretty delicious.

Came here for their lunch set box. It's a pretty well-rounded box with a variety of food as shown in the picture. The quality is good, although I'm not particularly a huge fan of saucy food. Overall, if you want a nice Japanese lunch box that is unique from the typical lunch box you find in other places, this is a solid option to try.

Tasty spot for amazing Japanese food. Love the decor and cozy vibes. Enjoyed the aburi sushi as well as the uni pasta. Service was prompt and friendly.
