A Different Booklist

We went as a family for the first time. We walked into Black Excellency! The vibe in the store was welcoming, inspiring and creative. The selection of books were amazing as well as the customer service. We will definitely be back! I highly recommend this bookstore.

Amazing cultural arts center that is also a bookstore. An authentic community space in the historical Bathurst neighborhood of Toronto.

Pretty small store so there isn't a very wide range of a selection in-store, but you can have them order specific books that aren't in-stock on their website. They do have many books on the African & Caribbean Diaspora that you can't easily find elsewhere though! All staff members were super friendly and helpful both times I've been. Definitely go here if you want to support local POC-owned and run businesses!

I had a book launch at A Different Booklist and the adjoining Blackhurst Cultural Centre space, and it was perfect. The venue was just right for a book launch, with a table set up for signings in the book store, and an open space for guests to chat and mingle. Itah and the whole team were so lovely, helpful, and accommodating. Loved the energy of the space, highly recommend!

A great bookstore that is run by very friendly and amazing people. A wonderful selection of books that nourish the mind and soul. A refreshing place that sells books about POC that you will not easily find available from other big chain book stores.They also have a great entertaining space that looks like it could fit up to 60-70 people. The staff there were very accommodating and helped us make our event go off without a hitch.Thank you for being such a strong presence in the community.

Really nice to see a bookstore offering a wide array of works by BIPOC and women authors! Staff were kind and helpful, and the space was very nice! My friends and I ended up chilling here for a while, too! If you’re looking for BIPOC-related books of a variety of genres, from self-care to political studies, this is the place to be!

Finally a place in Toronto I can bring my children to enjoy many authors of melanin ethnicities.Power to the people

I found this bookstore to be quite amazing. Ive been to a lot of bookstores and there are books from Black authors but only a shelf. This store had a large collection of books from Black authors though. Which I loved and which we need to see more of. The staff were kind and helpful and guided me in the direction of book that I was looking for. They have all sorts of books such as, Fantasy, Children books, Biographies, Graphic Novels and books talking about the Black community and experience in society. Everyone needs to at least check out this lovely bookstore because it has a lot to offer.Both of the books I bought are amazing and I will being coming back to this store.

Very quaint, well put together shop with a wide selection of books by a variety of POC, women, and multinational authors.They had categories for things I hadn't considered before, like youth non-fiction and children high interest low-level, which I thought were extremely interesting and useful distinctions.Staff were also communicative and friendly.I look forward to my next visit and picking something up!

Great shop. Was easy to deal with even in the midst of the pandemic. Picked up a couple great cookbooks here. What they don't have they're happy to order. Support your local bookshops!
