VON

I had the most terrible experience. First off the entire building is a dump, and completely filthy! I walked in, checked in, then sat in the waiting area. The group working in this place did nothing but gossip and talk about how “nasty the patient that just left smelled, loud enough that people in the waiting room heard the entire issue and even this gentleman’s FULL name! Patient confidentiality? Nope not here! The filipino lady behind the counter was then saying how she needs to eat these candies because she can “taste” his smell. Ok I get it, awful smell and I couldn’t do that job, but you don’t disrespect a patient and let out confidential information around other patients! The nurse that called me in was quite nice. She cares about her job. The “head nurse” well THAT is a completely different story! She is nasty, rude, treats you like a piece of garbage, even when you are in full tears due to pain. She was also in on the gossip garbage with the others! I ended up leaving without any further treatment due to the pain factor. She told me she is “telling” my doctor on me! Go nuts lady! I could just imagine the nasty gossip they said about me after I left so others could hear. I will NEVER in my life use this company again! I will also make sure that as many people know about my experience as possible, which with my career should be very easy. I also will be doing an official complaint, not that this company cares because I’m just one little fish in the big ocean. Take my advice and STAY AWAY!

I made one call and the woman on the phone made me feel very uncomfortable. She was short, and rude sounding in a 3 min term.

Everyone I had the pleasure of working with here was fantastic. I have had a lot of medical experiences over the last year, and a few very bad ones, Dr. Not calling back appointments getting moved, etc. So I was a bit worried about going to VON, but they really know what they are doing and really make you feel at ease. I finely felt like I was a person and not just my injury. If you follow their instructions, then you should be back to normal in no time.

It really depends what nurse you get. I've been going to this location for 2 years now, mostly on weekly appts for wound care but post surgery last winter it was almost 4 months of daily wound care appts. I've had one appt where I was refused treatment, stuck in a room that hadn't been cleaned or not properly and ignored because the nurse wouldn't do my bandage change without me wearing a mask which I have a medical exemption on file with them and a note on the front of my file stating full PPE required. I walked out without treatment, filed a complaint with the manager and refused to ever be seen by this nurse again. I have on occasion been spoken down to by regular staff there, but then there are some very helpful pleasant staff as well. I find the community nurses in there filling in are much nicer to deal with. I went almost a year between seeing one community nurse and she picked up right where she left off just like she was one of my regular nurses. Specifically Kim, Bo and Paula of the community nurses I remember the names of, I'd have them doing my care any day if I could.

I have come to appreciate the nurses and admin people who work for hamilton VON. they are dedicated and often times over worked doing what they do. never have I had a grumpy von help me with what I need done . I am thankful for everyone who works there. It makes life easier for so many people to be able to go into the VON office rather than wait hours in the emergency room at any of hamiltons many hospitals.
