Bekins Moving & Storage
Poorly managed company. They grossly underestimated our move. First truck didn't have enough room for all of our belongings, so they had to go get a second truck. Dispatcher didn't know there was a second (storage) location although he was told several times. Our belongings were split amongst three trucks. 3.5 weeks between pickup and final delivery. We had some minor damage to two items, several boxes were crushed, so hoping nothing is broken inside. We would NEVER recommend using this moving company.

Bekins Parksville recently packed and moved my elderly parents from Chemainus to Victoria. We could not have received better service than what Dom and Dave provided. They were friendly, professional and efficient. They worked extremely hard to load and unload in a timely manner. The move went without a hitch. I wholeheartedly recommend Bekins and particularly Dominic and Dave.Well done gentlemen, thank you.

IN RESPONSE TO THE ‘OWNER’S” REPLY TO MY REVIEW - WHERE IS THE HARDWARE FOR MY BLINDS??? Thanks to your employee’s carelessness I have never been able to re-hang my blinds. Your complete and utter disregard for me as a customer following my move is unacceptable. My opinion of your company stands.I booked Bekins in Parksville because friends had used them and hadn’t complained (although, looking back, they hadn’t exactly recommended them, either). Bridget, the woman who came to assess what I’d need, was professional and helpful. When I moved my entire household into storage a few months later, ahead of a major renovation, all seemed to go well. Unfortunately, that’s where the good review ends. I really don’t know where to start with the “return” portion of the move. This is truly the worst moving company I’ve ever dealt with. They damaged walls & trim as one of their bull-in-a-china-shop employee rammed a dresser upstairs and into a closet, lost critical items (like ALL the hardware to re-install window blinds, which had been in separate bags and securely fastened with yards of heavy-duty tape to the also heavily-bound blinds) and could not have cared less when I called to voice my concerns. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE. Use ANYBODY but Bekins.

I had the company move my belongings from one location in Parksville to another. Bridget, the repcame out to give me a quote, and to assess the size of truck necessary. On the day of the move, Dalton and his crew arrived promptly and worked hard to load the truck. There were many things that were not able to be loaded, so they had to remain in the house until the date of move in. Dalton is very professional, and I believe he did his best to make this move a good one for me, but the truck was too small. On the move in day, things were loaded in efficiently, but the piano couldn’t be brought up the stairs. It was decided I would need a crane, so I was left knowing that I would have to arrange that. The overall move price was 500 more than the estimate.I called Bekins to find a day and time to coordinate the crane with. Shawn, manager told me I’d have to pay the four hour minimum, which I knew today be $200 an hour. I negotiated though, and we agreed that it could tag in to the end of a move, and I could pay the rate dependent on the time required. Since the big parts of the piano were downstairs, legs, etc. were upstairs, there would be no truck involvement. The date was arranged for two weeks later at end of day. I booked a crane, and waited. The day before, I called Bekins to confirm and was told the crew would arrive at 11:30 the next day. I quickly called the crane to rearrange, and was able to do so. On the day of the move, I took the day off work. At 11 I called Bekins again to make sure everything was okay, and was told the crew would come at 1:30. I rearranged the crane, and waited. The next time I called Bekins, I was told they’d come at 3. By this time I had to find a new crane operator. Frantically calling around, I found someone who could be there for 4:30. I called Bekins back, explained, and was told I would have to pay from 3 on, despite their numerous time changes. I agreed, because the tenant was moving into my basement the following day.The crew that arrives had a different driver, Dom. He was rude, condescending, and very arrogant. As luck would have it, the second crane operator couldn’t be there at 4:30. The crew left here to take the truck back, and to get their cars. Before he left, Dom quickly processed payment of 1102 dollars. They came back with their cars, but no tools. After the crane had moved the piano upstairs, Dom very sweetly came to me - “Sweetheart, where is that wrench you had earlier? I forgot my tools in the truck.” Sweetheart? I’m twice his age, and can’t believe that in this day and age someone would be so inappropriate. I just wanted him out if the house though, so I provided it. Two of the crew were working on the piano assembly when Dom was downstairs asking the crane operator how much he made in a day and inquiring as to how he could become an operator. All on my dime; Dom had very clearly stated that his crew was working only until 7 pm. After I gave him a withering look, he returned upstairs. The job was complete, when at 7:01 pm Dom announced that they were one minute over, and we’re technically “off” the clock. The crew left. After, I looked at my receipt only to notice that his rate, instead of 200 an hour had increased to 250 an hour!I left two phone messages with Peter, the location owner, which were unanswered. I sent two emails explaining what had happened and asking for a call - no response. I then went to the BBB, and Peter responded by fabricating an excuse that I had not arranged for a crane. No mention of the increase in the hourly rate.Do NOT hire anyone working for Peter. I know that Dalton and his crew were great, but if you are on a budget, this is not the company to use. I’m in a position where I’m able to work to recoup the loss, but many people are not. I hope that no one else has any experiences like this one. Kudos to Dalton, shame on you Peter.UPDATE: the owner called me to berate me today. It took him a month to respond. My review still stands.

The guys who came to move our possessions from our home were friendly professional and efficient. I loved how every piece of furniture was carefully wrapped in blankets before taking it out to the truck and that every item and box was recorded for inventory purposes!

This move was the worse experience I have ever had with any moving company. We sold our home in Nanoose Bay and put our belongings into storage for 6 months. Once we purchased our new home in Alberta, our belongings were to be delivered. They gave me a 3 day window for delivery but did not stick to that time frame. When they did arrive, they only had half our belongings. Had to wait another week for the balance of our belongings. When they started unloading our items, the damage just never seemed to stop. Our beds were filthy, silk plants broken in half, legs broken off cabinets. There were 18 items in total that were damaged. The movers were very unprofessional. Even plugged our toilets and did not have the courtesy to let us know. The worse experience of my life. Find another company.

Bekins moved my parents' furniture from Nanaimo to near Ottawa. Bridget, the sales rep, provided great advice and took calls for clarifications. Sean, the dispatcher, provided accurate information for timing of the delivery so arrangements could be made for the move-in. Brian, the local mover, was personable and very professional. Ron, the long-haul driver, was fast, efficient and ensured that everything survived the long move! Price was great and service was amazing! Recommend 100% to anyone!

The movers themselves (Dalton)were OK but I had a horrible time with the office staff. Number one - some guy was pressuring me to pre-pay for the move before the truck even showed up in Saskatchewan and number two the promised air miles (about $300)were never put into my air miles account. I have asked several times nicely and just recently, four months after the move, ask them to please put the air miles into my account now. Sorry but I will always use Jay’s moving and storage (Atlas Van Lines) and not these guys ever again. (United)

We used BEKINS to move to our new location and could not be happier. Our move was supposed to be painless but quickly turned into a major pain in the butt for them and they never once slowed down, complained or even insinuated frustration. The crew we had went above and beyond their call of duty and I would definitely use them again once we inevitably have to move again as our business continues to grow.Great job
