Japanese Cuisine Daruma
This warm and cozy restaurant is our favorite spot. The food is so fresh and taste fantastic! Yesterday we tried the season special cold ramen, perfect portions and taste fresh for summer time. We always have some other dishes such as beef takaki, bakes shrimp, yakitori etc. All awesome taste let us just like fly to Japan! Highly recommended!

My aunt and I went there to celebrate her birthday. I made a reservation just on vase if they are busy. We went there early just to avoid the rush hour. The place is very cozy, like most Authentic Japanese restaurant. It can seat 22 people. They have table and they got like the bar side where you see the chef and his assistant preparing the food. Which is how it is in Japan. The owner is the chef! He is so cute.The staff are super nice. The pictures on the wall are hand drawn and you can see it's age. Which makes it so soulful and vintage.The food came super fast. We had 4 shrimp tempura, agadeshi tofu all are so crispy. The tofu is so soft and so flavourful. It was not cooked in a rush.Then I had the chicken katsu with rice and miss soup. It has salad and 2 slices of orange.My aunt had the teriyaki salmon! It's very generous portion, you get 2 pieces each!Though the place look outdated... still your there for the food! It's so nice and clean and that's all it matters. Then they have Japanese music in the background just loud enough to have music not too loud. When we went there I see there's like a few regulars. I kinda envied them coz the owner knows them, even the servers. I will super definitely go back there! Like it's NOT for large group, but it's great for a date night. I give my thumbs up and even my 2 big toes! That's how amazing this place it! Shout out to everyone in Daruma! Why didn't I know about you guys before! Mind blowingly yummy!

What a charming, authentic Japanese restaurant! We went here for the first time last week and got their takoyaki, sushi, soba, and donburi. Their takoyaki was really good! The waitress was also very helpful in helping us understand the menu.I would definitely be back for their Japanese street food and sushi.

Went here today for a Monday lunch. Our first time. My group and I ordered the assorted tempura, chicken karaage, the sashimi - sushi lunch bento box, and one order of chicken Katsu don. The Chicken Karaage was the star appetizer, the chicken was moist and not over fried at all, the hot sauce with it was a good pairing, the tempura was on par with most other places i have tried, no complaints. The Sashimi bento box was a great value, and the chicken Katsu don was moisture and very flavorful. I will definitely be coming back to try the dinner menu, I also really enjoyed the atmosphere and lay out of the restaurant.

We went on a Wednesday lunch. My thought: Why didn’t I know this place earlier? I wish I did! The food is great quality. My partner and I started with the tea - warm to start our appetite. Ayumi brought us the miso soup which was so well-balanced. Our a la carte tempura arrived and we were blown away by how the breading was so light - the shrimp flavour came through. Our bentos arrived, I picked Set A and my partner picked Set B. I could tell that they marinated the karaage and it was so delicious. The steamed rice was warm and the salad had a flavourful dressing. The salmon teriyaki was grilled to perfection. My partner said that his sashimi was GOOD stuff. Our overall dining experience was very pleasant. Ayumi, who helped us was kind. We will be back! This is a Calgary gem in my opinion.

5/5. Period. Place gives the authentic Japanese small diner experience and everything I ordered was just delectable. Loved the tofu steak as it had slight spice to it and firmness of the tofu was just right. Be back whenever I'm in Calgary

Welcome to an awesome Japanese food experience within Calgary. The decor is simple and clean where all the focus is on the food and the food is excellent. The freshness of the ingredients produces Supremely flavored dishes. You are missing out if you don't stop here.

Came here for date night, and this will be a place we'll continue to visit. The restaurant is nostalgic of our own experiences in Japan. I like that the menu is definitely well-rounded. We were pleased to see items you don't normally see in other Japanese restaurants, of which we were happy to order several of. Everything was really good and brought back memories of various restaurants in Japan, especially the kushiage. It's very clear the owner takes great care and pride of this establishment. I'm looking forward to our next visit.

Not sure why this place is rated $$ for prices, the prices definitely are not $$ especially compared to the quality and size of the portions. Price wise it's more of a $$$$ while the sushi and sashimi are small and thin.Food quality was ok; nothing special to be honest and there are many places that are better in quality and portion sizes. $25 for 7 piece sushi and $29 for 7 pieces of very small and thin sashimi. You'd expect for $29, the sashimi slices would be thick - they are not. Rolls are overpriced and small as well.Service was great though, no complaints whatsoever but we were also the only table from 6pm to 730pm.The atmosphere is fine. My only complaint here is that the ventilation is poor so as soon as you walk in, all you can smell is a smokey kitchen. Definitely do not recommend wearing your best outfit here as you will need to wash as soon as you get home.

I love this hidden gem! They’re always so friendly and take such pride in their dishes. So far it’s the closest to Tokyo quality I’ve tried within Calgary. The menu isn’t extensive but the few dishes we’ve ordered such as beef tataki have a unique taste. Their beef is not the same. It tastes sweeter. Yum!
