Nanaimo Seniors Village

Nanaimo Seniors Village gave me an opportunity as an RN after completing my BScN in 2016, where I subsequently worked for two years. I was overwhelmed by the kindness and hard work of the staff and management. They encouraged me and provided me opportunity to participate in committees and programs that bettered my own knowledge as well as constantly working to improve patient care. I am truly thankful for my time there.

My parents live here. My mom says, “I feel like I’m on a cruise ship, without the water.” She is so happy there. I must say, the food is delicious too. It really is a community within the facility. The staff offer an assortment of activities, for all to enjoy. If you want to have fun, you can. It’s all what you make it.

I've just read all the reviews and am compelled to write my own.My father moved into Assisted Living the summer of 2017. I am nothing but grateful he's been able to live there. The staff are far more considerate and helpful than I ever expected. My father's pension only pays about half of his expenses. So I'm left paying the rest. I'm not rich. But it is 100% worth it. On the surface some think it sounds like a lot, but when I've compared what it would cost to rent a cheap basement suite and food and all the extra driving and costs there would be otherwise, there is no comparison. $2500/month to live like he's on an all inclusive cruise is a deal!!! $85/night for a guest room when relatives come to see him is unheard of. And the facilities are nicer than my own home. So you may read these few bad reviews of when people went to see someone once, on what must have been an off day. That is not what you should base your opinion on. I LOVE the place and especially the people that work there. They all deserve heaps of appreciation and respect.

As an entertainer in many seniors homes, I am appalled at the lack of any kind of live entertainment in this facility unlike other seniors residences. Their grand piano is badly out of tune and never played. At other residences, I am welcomed frequently and the residents appreciate my contribution. Covid restrictions have been cited, however, I am allowed to visit there since I am also triple vaccinated and pass all their tests. I can only conclude that they do not care about providing this kind of stimulation to the residents.

My mother is very happy living here! Great food!

As a grandaughter of not one but two former residents I feel obligated to share. If it wasn't for Covid, both would have been moved out more quickly. They do not accommodate or look after special diets including Celiac's. My grandmother lost significant weight and her dimentia advanced significantly as a result. We moved my grandparents closer to home. Now they have adequate food, regular exercise, regular social events, and diet monitoring. This place place nickles and dimes so much that you lose track of the small change. With a six week notice of departure my grandmother was still charged for food even though she wasn't there. Unless you are in the face of administrstion residentes are not adequately cared for. I do not recommend sending loved ones to this facility.

The friendly staff and welcoming hosts made our day. I was even offered a gluten-free meal to accomodate my celiac diet. On the waiting list for mom- crossing my fingers.

My personal experience after working 3 years fulltime at NSV is that there is a great deal of love for all the people we serve, at every level.Like all workplaces this does not come without its challenges. Though at times there are shortages in staff, and everyday can be different. The frontline staff work relentlessly to provide quality of exceptional care and customer service. There is a great sense of team work, if your a team player.There are learning opportunities and the managers are suportive.It is a large beautiful facility, and I would encourage anyone with a passion to help seniors to apply, at any level.

My father received terrible personal care from Nanaimo Seniors Village. The fall he had there was not reported to our family. Whenever I phoned, my calls went right to voice mail and were never returned. When we transferred him to a different facility we discovered he had not been showered for weeks, nor had his hands and feet been cared for. When we called NSV to discuss how he was treated we were told by his nurse she gave him the maximum" care. I can't imagine what their minimum care would look like. Money is spent on the properties landscaping but not on patient care!"

I have worked at NSV as a nurse for 11 + years and I have loved every minute of my time here. I have recently been promoted to a manager and I am over joyed at the opportunity & room for growth within the company. NSV has a special place in my heart, along with all the lovely residents and amazing long standing staff. It's a pretty special thing to wake up each morning and look forward to work and that's what NSV gives me every single day:)
