Val and Patsy’s Island Food
Probably the best jerk chicken in the Durham region. The chicken is so juicy and their rice and peas is so moist. The portion size is perfect. This place doesn’t get enough hype that it deserves. So delicious!

Loved this spot! Thankful for more Caribbean restaurants in Durham !! If was really good I had the fried chicken dinner and jerk chicken poutine !Food is cool and the packaging was good because it kept everything warm and safe!!Definitely will return because price point isn’t bad either and the service was good too

I ordered the Callaloo with a side of rice and peas, I normally get this dish from other restaurants but this is by far the best place I’ve gotten it at. This is definitely a dish for someone who wants a homemade meal but didn’t have enough time to cook something up at home, definitely someone who doesn’t like fast food in general. It’s a 10/10 for me, nice portions for the prices and you can definitely feel the love in the food. I see myself becoming a regular for this dish.

I was so so so disappointed, I called before going to this restaurant and ask if they had soup she said yes and told me what was in the soup I was so excited I was like yes some real Jamaican soup but nope it wasn't it was water and oil with no flavour a weird shaped dumpling no chicken was in the soup and it was a chicken soup omg I was so sad I really needed this soup but I couldn't eat that at all had to throw it out. I got the patty it was ok didn't like the Crust much but it was ok to eat. Make me sad that Jamaican restaurant are not the same as they used to be back then.

I ordered the large oxtail and with the aromas of the restuarant i was very excited to try. The rice and peas tasted really good, not dry or overcooked nor bland. The oxtail did leave me quite disappointed. It pulled off the bone perfectly but lacked heavy in flavour, with no spice. I was hoping for butters beans w the oxtail but knew that it didn't come w such when I got to the restaurant.I would be going back to probably try a different dish since the Ackee looked and smelled really good when I was in.

Had Val and Patsy’s Island Food in Ajax. Was really disappointed.The service was great. Looks like a smalll family run business. The lady that served us was kind and gave us a free dumpling to try. Honestly was really nice of her. But it had no flavour.Here is where I was disappointed. I got the jerk chicken poutine. The lady took the the smallest piece of the chicken leg and it wasn’t even the full chicken leg a small piece of that. She chopped it up so small with all the bones. She put that small amount of chicken and called it a jerk chicken poutine. We literally had to go looking for the chicken and we bacially ate the top and had to throw the rest out.She was telling us about inflation and how they only have cheese curds some days and some days other cheese. I feel it should be consistent if the prices are same. The the quantity.We pay the same price in Scarborough and the quality and quantity are so much better.

Came in randomly to try this place. Got the oxtail and the curry goat, rice and peas, festival and plantain. The lady serving me was kind enough to throw in a bonus dumpling!Best oxtail I've had in a while! The meat on both oxtail and the goat were SO tender. Flavours were proper! This is definitely going to be my spot in Ajax when I have a craving for Jamaican food.Highly recommend!!

We ordered 3 dishes. Oxtail dinner was mid the rice and peas were great so flavourful but the oxtail was all bone lacked flavour and was very disappointed. The jerk chicken was dry but still had good flavour. The jerk chicken poutine was disappointing eveything with it was good except the fries were awful way to dry and big tasted like nothing just like air. Probably wouldn’t return.

I was hoping not be disappointed again but I am I believing in second chances the oxtail is a no it’s all mash out with bones it’s like I was given the bottom the ackee and food is fresh it’s ok the CALALOO is a no it’s can CALALOO which is the worst I throw that out along with the oxtail fry chicken is ok the batter on it is hard roti chicken is fine not hear to bash just so you can make your customers come back cook with love and fresh ingredients good luck

I was in Ajax for the day and stumbled across this family-run spot. I'm so happy I did! Absolutely delicious homemade Jamaican food for great value.I got their Oxtail Dinner, which comes with rice & peas and coleslaw. It was delicious. The oxtail was so tender and flavourful. The rice and coleslaw were very fresh! I also got to chat with Patsy one of the owners, who was super kind. I hope to stop by again to try more of the menu.They do takeout, delivery and have tables for dine-in as well.
