Silver Islet General Store

Went on a Wednesday and the store was closed but Marty was really nice to accommodate us and told us where to see the view of the Sleeping Giant and even gave us a quick history of the Silver Islet.

Nice little Cozy warm place with Warm Hospitable people who run this place…It’s not a store it’s a museum. Take a look at the pictures posted, they have salvaged a few invaluable items from the closed and protected Silver Islet Mining company.The Pool table is about 160 years old and very well maintainedSouvenirs. coffee, beers, soft drinksCinnamon Bun home made to die for…Give yourself 15 / 20 minutes to explore this place..Great people …

Everyone there is SO nice!!! So worth stopping in, the baked goods are amazing and there is ice cream! The cream cheese pumpkin muffins are especially good, as well as the cinnamon rolls. I would personally recommend having your cinnamon roll warm. Recently I had a peach pie smoothie there too and it was really delicious! Also I love that they have aerial pics of the mine!

Wonderful shop! The atmosphere really takes you back in time and the bakery is excellent. The people were very friendly and talkative, and all the items being sold were really unique, good quality, and things that you could cherish for years to come. The cinnamon buns were the best cinnamon buns that I've ever tasted!I highly recommend you visit this little shop if you're staying at the Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.Shoutout to one of the bakers, I think her name was Mary! She was so sweet and made sure that we had the best experience possible. Thank you so much!

Great selection of souvenirs and love the decor. It's like stepping back in time. Wonderful staff.

You don't expect when you go to general store that you will make a trip for 100 years back. And they have an amazing cinnamon rolls.

The Silver Islet General Store is a marvel and one of the highlights of our trip to Sleeping Giant.To call it a general store, undersells what this amazing place has to offer. It is a store, but it is also a museum, a tea room, an a historic site in it's own right.The owners were incredibly lovely, and made the experience incredibly memorable. We had initially intended to stop in for five to ten minutes get coffee and look around as another camper told us it was worth the stop.Instead we stayed over an hour looking at artifacts, and hearing stories and being shown photos by the owner.Ever item in the store feels like a thread to pull on that can take you on an adventure! A single question on if a photograph on a wall was of the original silver islet mine, and the owner pulled out book detailing the mines layout, an iPad that had his own photos of the now underwater site, a detailed description of how they built the mine and how steam powered pumps prevented it from flooding under the lake. He then showed us the original ledger of the mine including the page that noted the costs of the missing coal shipment, that a few months later lead to the mines closing in the late 1800s. Other artefscts included were hunks of unprocessed Silver, an original scale and safe, desks taken from the ship the founders of the Silver Islet Mining Company sailed on.A question on the billiard table, lead to us learning of its commissioning over 160 years ago, and photos of its original ivory balls.The Facebook page of the store which can be found linked on the website is also a treasure trove of picture from the store!If you're looking for a quick coffee, it'd probably be faster to leave the park. If you're open to experience, theres nowhere better you can go!
