Hired Steve to inspect our new house. House is about a year old and never lived in. It has 2 fireplaces. One electric and one one gas. During inspection, he told me that the fireplaces wold not turn on probably due to old batteries in the remotes which seemed believable.When we moved in I figured out that the electric one had a tiny switch that had to be turned on in order for the remote to work. It was not the batteries and it works fine. The gas one however has a problem. It does not even have a remote, it actually has a switch on the wall that turns on the pilot which in turn should fire up the main burner. Well...the switch lights-up the pilot but the main burner comes on for about 5 seconds and shuts off.The dishwasher (brand new) comes on but will not suck water in.Contacted Steve and he told me that they don't inspect appliances. WOW, a house inspection that does not inspect the house appliances. OK...So I asked him if a fireplace is considered an appliance, I mean he surely tried to put the electric one on with no success and told me that it was just the batteries. No answer from Steve.Now I have to call a guy to look at the dishwasher and the gas fireplace. More money to pay on top of the $600.00 + Steve charged me.Steve is a nice guy and very pleasant to talk to but not sure about his inspection skills.
