Tara does not know much about the details of the pool / installation and features and had me speak to her husband. He has knowledge / experience and has chosen to start up his own business. I explained what I was after, sent in details with drawing and did most of the upfront work for Tara. I wanted it done ASAP and the other contractors that had quoted last season are booked up for this season, so Tara had a chance to secure a project. We went back and forth, even to the extent of her asking me for the previous quotes I had on file, despite them not being apples to apples, as these quotes were for a higher quality system then what she had originally recommended. She was trying to match but her quote came in just a bit higher and with assumed lower overheads, fact of the deposit structure set up in a way that it was top heavy towards the contractor covering all their expenses in advance, it didn’t make sense. We had an agreement to meet onsite this past Thursday to review and firm up the details and the quote. All Tara was interested in was the deposit structure and not really the package price and details required to move this forward. On Thursday, her husband did not show up, no phone call or email, even though I confirmed the meeting earlier during the day on Thursday. Long story short - beware as there are several pool installers out there that will collect a deposit and not complete the job. They can easily out a lien on a property with a signed contract for the project, but she comes back to say she was now worried about being paid? Only after I started asking questions they chose to back out but a good buyer would be negotiating and asking questions to make sure everything is legit. Don’t let a “formal” quote blind you, many are out there to rip off home owners!
