The view is awesome here. Right on the water! Friendly, knowledgeable and efficient staff, decent fish and chips (loved the tartar sauce!) and crispy chicken wrap. Nothing fancy, but just good honest food with lovely wine and beer.

Upon arrival we were told" the wait was going to be 45 minutes as the kitchen was busy. OK the setting was really nice so we decided to sit down in a table and wait. The table had dishes from before and we were patient and polite enough that we didn't rush anyone to clean it out. Meanwhile someone else came and was served almost right away. The food was below average. I had the fish and chips and the batter literally came apart from the fish. The lack of music made us feel a little odd. But the real reason for me to give a one star was that we felt we were not being treated fairly. I guess small town people haven't learned non white people are customers too."

A few of us road into town yesterday with this location as our planned destination, as it hasn't been our first visit and won't be our last.As stated by others the location and view are wonderful.I'm assuming here, but from what I gather the restaurant is under new ownership possibly since we have began visiting the last 3 years or so the visits have been great. The inside looks newly renovated and tastefully done. The staff were quick and friendly to deal with.As we've come to expect the pub fare was delicious. I had the finish and chips. One mate had the pulled pork sandwich and I forget what my other mate had but we all left quite content. If you haven't been in some or ever I'd recommend giving them a try for simple delicious the grub.

Service was very friendly, albeit a bit slow. Food was ok. The restaurant seemed to need some clean-up. The painting on the walls in particular needed some good edge work.

The menu has some decent items. It is a bar, so don't expect a full on gourmet experience. There is a waterside deck and a view of West Lake and the channel to Lake Ontario from just about anywhere in the restaurant. I don't know why they don't have any local beers on tap - the County has a few craft brewers now (besides a ton of wineries) and you would think that they would capitalize on that. The place can get loud (remember I said it is a bar), but even still you can bring the kids. We have always had good service and always have had a decent meal. I would give this place another star if I were only comparing it to restaurants of the same style.

Sandbanks Bar and Grill, or the Duke of Wellington as it may now be called?, is a bit of a unique place. It is one of my favourite dining rooms ever and the food is very well done but the menu is pretty boring. Anywhere else this would be fine but among the food culture in Prince Edward County it seems a little out of place. Bottom line is that if you want to visit with friends in a very pleasant dining room this is the place to go.The dining area: the actual building is nothing special - it's really just a diner/pub. It's the view that is special. The whole place is windows out onto the sandbanks dunes, West Lake, Wellington Harbour, and Wellington Beach. Probably one of the best views of any restaurant I've been to. It's just extremely pleasant. Restaurants with this kind of view are usually much nicer which make them less accessible but for the higher end of local watering hole prices you can come and enjoy a meal with friends in a really lovely location. The food: over the various iterations of this place (I've been coming for years) the food has never been the focal point. It's always pretty good but you come for the view. Under this newest iteration I would say the menu is the least interesting while being the best quality. I had the fish and chips with a coffee. The coffee was just coffee - not good or bad. The fish and chips were quite good but I wouldn't say memorable. I wouldn't go back or recommend the place just for the fish and chips despite them being pretty good. I recommend the place for the view. I was a little disappointed in the menu and lack of draught beer. They only had bottles when I was there and the choices were very boring - just the most generic stuff. If this was a local watering hole in Belleville with lower prices it'd be a good stop - but it's a memorable place among a really strong food culture so the plainness of the menu stuck out.If they're going for just a local watering hole against the overpowering food culture in the county I think that's actually admirable. I'd like to see more everyman" places in the county. Particularly with this awesome view. But to do that I think I'd actually aim a little lower and broader with the menu and drop the price a couple bucks. Better coffee

How hard is it to make Pub Food palatable? Well, let me tell you...You got your burgers made from cow carcass, you got your sandwiches made from deceased poultry, with a side of fried potatoes & a cold soda to wash it all down. Simple enough & hits the spot, right? Not so fast, says Mr. Stomach! No, this is a temporary visit to the innards followed by a lengthy stay at the Artisanal Lavatory. We visited this desperate Saloon style trough on a Wednesday, only because all other suggested eateries in PEC are closed on that particular day. (For reasons related to the darker religions, I can only assume. “Who will wear the beard tonight for this sacred sacrifice, Orson?”)I ordered a Chicken Breast Club with fries & a Pepsi. My wife ordered a burger with fries & a Pepsi. The Pepsi was flat & watered down. The bacon on my chicken showed up in piglet form, minutes earlier still breathing & playing joyfully in the mud. The server took it back, assuring me it would only be a minute, and correct she was, as if some magic machine had intervened! However, the chicken was much like the rubber on a 1973 school bus steering wheel, lacking any flavor & missing any grill marks whatsoever, but yet being suspiciously hotter than what a grill could produce. Again, almost like they had some mystical machine back there in Chef land!I was finished after one bite. My wife made it half way through her burger. We both were ill later. I mean, Black Magic ill.Worst 'foodie' experience in a long time. And now I wait for the PEC curse....

My husband knows this is the first place I want to come to when we get off the highway. Sure the food is average, but the view and service are exceptional. Great place for a beer and to sit and watch the water.

Food was cold, had to wait 25 mins for drinks when the restaurant had 2 people in it and 3 servers on, my husband ordered onion rings, and got cold French fries instead. Manager did absolutely nothing about it. Absolutely horrible. Used to go to that restaurant all the time. We certainly won't be back. We aren't ones to complain at all.
