Spirit West/Outdoor Approach

Theses people are simply awesome ... designing, manufacturing & repairing outdoor gear in our own town. Quality you can count on. They simply go to all extremes to fix it ... when most perfectly fine (but 'broke') gear lands in a land fill. Committed folks here - I'll happily do my best to support this home grown YYC business.

Absolutely amazing work.I took my motorcycle jacket in for repairs and they did a fantastic job, you can't even tell it was repaired. Took a bit longer than originally quoted, but I'm ok with that because of the quality. The price was more than reasonable!!

Very pleasant staff, but the attempted tent repair was, at best, substandard. The request was to fix two broken carbon pole inserts, glue back on two Velcro ties and add a couple of small patches to the bug netting. After more than a week at Spirit West, I received two $1.00 pole sleeves and a $60 fee. No other repairs were attempted, nor was I advised any tasks were not completed.

It was tough to have such poor service.We took items in for repair:(2) down jackets with small burn holes from a campfire.We were promised a two week window.We received, multiple missed deadlines.Well beyond the 2 week window we were promised.What we finally picked up:(1) jacket with a new zipper, c/w frayed seams and down feathers leaking out the length of the newly installed zipper.Did I mention the old zipper was fine?(1) jacket had burn marks from the iron they used for the patches.I will not return for any reason to this establishment.

Recently bought a custom ski jacket and I love it! It's such high quality and it fits extremely well. The store has such an enticing vibe, really makes you want to get outdoors. It's an amazing option if Sport Chek and MEC aren't your cup of tea!

I went on a kayak trip off of Vancouver Island in September. We had rain, wind and the night temperatures were between 0 and 5C. I bought a new sleeping bag just before the trip and was amazed at the quality of the sleeping bag and how well it fit.I'm top heavy and didn't know that they made sleeping bags for people like me.This was one of the best purchases I've ever made.

I recently asked them to repair my kid's Timbuk2 school backpack. It needed the outside water bottle pocket replaced. They were able to replace and it looks like it never was in need of repair. We are thrilled to get another 4 more years of service from it.It turns out that I forgot to ask them to fix a loop that served as a way of carrying the school's gym-strip bag outside of his backpack. When I collected it from having the water bottle pouch repaired, I mentioned the loop needed to be replaced. He kindly offered to fix it the day I went to pick it up and he just needed me to return in 30 minutes. When I offered to pay for it, he simply asked for my return business. Thank you and I appreciated their effort to replace the loop. I look forward to asking them to help with my next repair. Great customer service.

Zipper repair in 24 hours. Didn’t ask for it that quick. Cool store, definitely old school.Oh and somebody had suggested a place off Elbow drive. I paid over $100 LESS by saying…ah…lemme think about that.

I have been going to Spirit West for quite a few years, mainly for repairs on motorcycle clothing but also to have the custom made Essential jacket made. They've always done a great job but I wanted to give a shout out this time because they did an amazing job on a very complicated alteration. I had bought a new motorcycle jacket in Germany (not available in my size) and asked them to alter it. They took it in, they added a new pocket on the back and they even moved a couple of existing pockets on the front. Amazing work!

Altered 2 sets of motorcycle riding pants,They did great job of altering them to fit me properly at a fair price. Cant tell that they had been altered at all, they also do Gortex repairs!Steve is a gem, very personable and a long time local, with a great deal of knowledge and experience to offer.
