UPPER ACADEMY & Alliance Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

I had studied a lot of martial arts in my life. Then, as it happens, life gets in the way and I ended up moving across the country and fell out of training. I had been looking to get back into it for a a long time. One day, finally made the decision and started looking at schools. I made the decision to try Upper and I knew from day one that I was in the right place. The people are great to train with and all the instructors are knowledgeable. They also take the time to continue their own training so they can come and be an even better teacher. Highly recommend. There is a reason I will drive an hour each way to train at this school.

New to Jiu Jitsu, I started at Upper Academy enrolled in their five week beginner course. Professor Andre and the other students were all very welcoming. It has been an excellent and safe place to train and learn the art of Brazilian jiu-jitsu. I look forward to every class and wish I had started sooner. Oss!

I joined Upper Academy with zero experience and everyone was awesome and has always been willing to help out and walk through things with me. Professor Andre is a great teacher and a very positive person. I have felt like part of the team since day 1 and couldn’t have asked for more from my first experience!

I had been wanting to try Jiu-Jitsu for a few years and finally signed up at Upper Academy. I tried a few academies close to home and Upper was far and away they best fit. The lineage, small class sizes and family atmosphere can't be beat. All of the belts are super helpful and patient while still keeping a healthy level of competition and drive. The class times and membership options are perfect for busy people with options early AM, mid day and evening 6 days/week. Overall I am very happy to be a member of the Upper team and hope to continue training with Professor Andre for years to come.

I started training at Upper Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in my early 40s after not doing much exercise and working at a desk job for about 20 years. Professor Andre’s beginner program was a perfect way to safely get in good enough shape to start learning BJJ. Fast forward only 8 months and I have lost 15 lbs of fat, I’m much stronger, and have learned a lot of BJJ fundamentals. I really enjoy learning the details of the techniques and rolling with all of the teammates. Private lessons with Professor Andre are a great way to fine tune what I learn in the group classes - I do one a week. For anyone looking to improve their physical fitness, learn a new skill, and have a lot of fun, I highly recommend joining Upper BJJ.

Excellent instruction in a wide variety of styles. The students and staff are all friendly friendly and hardworking. I drive an extra 40 minutes to go here rather than the studio by my house due to how much better I find UPPER. Would strongly recommend.

I've been training at this Jiu Jitsu gym for over a year now couldn't be happier with my experience. The instructors are knowledgeable and passionate about the sport, and they create a supportive and welcoming environment for all levels. It is clean and well-maintained, and the class schedule is flexible enough to accommodate any busy schedule. I would highly recommend this gym to anyone looking to improve their Jiu Jitsu skills, self defense or to just get a great workout in a welcoming atmosphere.

I've never felt more comfortable learning a brand new sport. The professor and students are phenomenal and make you feel so safe! This is the best place for kids and adults - beginner or experienced. I recommend this to everyone who is interested in just getting into shape or wanting to compete. Professor Andre is the best and I feel proud to be apart of this alliance family.

Wonderful experience as a first time Jiu-Jitsu practioner, I tried the 5 week program since then I have been practicing continuously. Instructors are patient in training and senior students always provide guidance. I really like Saturday class its open mat, good energy all around and a great learning time sparring with all the other students.

I started training at Upper Jiu-Jitsu over 2 years ago. In the beginning I was looking for a place where my son could train, however after watching his trial class I decided to join as well. Most nights we have small class sizes which enables the instructors to give each athlete individual help when learning a new sequence, enabling you to ask lots of questions. Professor Andre has created a family type atmosphere where everyone is kind and respectful. Sometimes, I have to take my toddler to training and she just hangs out in the back on a crash mat with her iPad by herself or plays with other kids. The fact that I can still go to class when my wife is at work is awesome. The schedule is amazing, there are classes in the morning, afternoon, and at night, so no excuses to not practice. Jiu-jitsu here is super fun, great exercise, safe and it gives you something to look forward to on a weekday.
