Alair Homes Nanaimo

We started the process of trying to find a contractor in late 2020/early 2021 with a good reputation and excellent quality of workmanship. Doing this in a pandemic where contractors were in high demand was daunting. Alair homes was our first choice but we thought the likelihood of them wanting to do a small project seemed out of reach for us. We place several calls to a variety of contractors and Alair was the ONLY one to call us back. We know they are a busy company so we were beyond excited and a bit shocked that they would take the time to deal with us.From our first to last dealings with them they were excellent to deal with. Chris Gulliver was by far the best contractor/partner we have ever dealt with. He was consistently keeping us in the loop of what was going on, delays, and timelines. He took the time to explain things to us and be onsite when it was needed. There were a few delays during the project that caused some frustrations but we were in the middle of a pandemic and this was unavoidable supply chain delays and delays in permit approvals from the Regional District of Nanaimo. Even with these frustrating delays, Chris and his team talked us through it. The communication and professionalism was excellent.The workmanship of the contractors was outstanding. After watching entirely too many home improvement shows and hearing all the things that can go wrong, we were nervous about how things would go. We had saved up for many years for this renovation and it was our dream kitchen. Handing over the money and the responsibility to someone was a bit daunting at first but the workmanship of these contactors was excellent and the standard of work was exceptional. From the placing of an electrical plug to the install of the many windows in the home the work was flawless. If there was an issue, it was fixed in a timely manner. The men and women that did the work in the house were always professional and great to deal with. They always came into the house with respect for the house and us and always presented themselves professionally. They kept areas clean and tidy down to the way they presented themselves.The end product is something out of a magazine and we consistently walk into the kitchen and continue to be amazed with the end product. They took our vision and made it happen. We are so happy with the end product and this is because of people like Chris Gulliver and his team at Alair.Thank youS&B Pope

My brother and I have had Alair Homes build us 6 houses in the past 4 years and its been a great experience each time. After working in several Alair Homes it was an easy choice to hire them when it came time to renovate our kitchen and ensuite bathroom. The design and budget planning process was clear and sensible. Communication with the project manager was prompt and any of my questions were answered in a timely manner. Scheduling was streamlined with very little waiting time. The final product is beautiful and we wouldn't change a thing.

Alair Homes is a highly professional and ethical company with a strong record of attention to detail that makes them a delight to work with. The project managers are always responsive to my questions with regards to job details and provide answers in a timely fashion. They are dedicated to worker safety and have clear expectations in this regard. Work sites are always clean and organized with a generally seamless interaction between sub-trades - always a concern when multiple trades are involved in a project. Best of all - they understand that cash flow is essential to a successful business and have always payed their invoices within 30 days. We built our home with Chiara from Alair and are very satisfied with our experience. She was thorough, transparent, helpful, timely, and kind. The entire process was fantastic and we can’t say enough great things about our experience. We met with a few builders, and I can’t imagine having gone with anyone else. Everything was clear and upfront from the beginning. All of our questions were answered in such a helpful manner. We were first timers and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience! Alair simplify and clarify the daunting prospect of building a home. They navigate you through the maze of problems that occur and objectives to build your home. As a unit they perform incredibly well, individually Graeme Carlton is like the head on a good Guinness; rises to the top. He works tirelessly and possesses wonderful people skills. He keeps you in touch with the reality of the build and doesn't sugar coat anything. He involves you in every aspect of the build without putting any of the stress of building on you. I would recommend him and Alair to anyone and everyone if they are considering building a house in Nanaimo. Stu Hopewell and his team definitely are worth considering for any custom home build project you are thinking of.They have managed to build my dream home on time, on budget and the standard of work is very high. I am amazed at the standard and professional attitude of the local trades that are contracted by Alair. The trades all spoke highly of working with Alair and enjoy the clarity that Alair provides to the different contracts. All this during Covid, it is an amazing thing to have been a part of.My only failure was not convincing Graeme to support a decent soccer team :).

We had Alair Homes Nanaimo build our retirement dream home for us, and we could not have been happier with the results. We were worried at the start of the process as we lived in Ottawa while our house was being built, but our Project Manager Matt was absolutely fantastic in keeping us up-to-date with everything.
