Mui Kee Chicken Pot
Came here around 11PM on a Saturday night with a few friends and the place was pretty empty. We ordered the spicy chicken pot since it was the most popular and what the restaurant was known for. The chicken was pretty good, soft and flavourful. The idea is that after you finish the chicken pot, there will be a sauce leftover and you're suppose to order more small dishes to add to that sauce. The waitress will also add some chicken stock to the sauce so that it will become a hotpot. Overall, pretty good good and enjoyed my time here with friends. Would recommend if you want to get together with everyone.

Was looking for some chow after my foot reflexology, came across Mui Kee, place looks good, at least the hotpot is not swimming with the typical “ma-lak” chili oil. Staff were patient & helpful in explaining since this was our 1st time here. Settled for the non-spicy half chicken hotpot that comes with sweet potato noodles (aka glass noodles) & veggies (red & green peppers, sui choy), have it in soup, the chicken is mixed in a nice sauce with the noodles & veggies, chicken needs to be cooked further in the hotpot or else the inside is still raw. A good portion for 2, taste was yummy. We added deep fried tofu with the dish. An enjoyable meal.

Food is good and if you come in groups it can be affordable. The sweet spot for value is multiples of 4-5 persons where you end up spending about $20 each all in. If you go in groups and lower or higher you might end up spending significantly more and having a lot of left overs. This style of food is not covid friendly in my opinion. Everyone will be sharing the dish and it isn't the best but really engaging if it's close friends or family. Now for the food. I think the large chicken pot is an absolute beast and just get a few topping is essential. The pot is flavourful and warms the soul.Dislikes. They are short of staff every time we go. The laoban (boss) needs to hire or spend a bit more on staffing since it's not fair to the ones working. They updated the decor recently and I think it is for the worse. They opted for an industrial look but it felt cold and uninviting. Change it back!

True Hong Kong taste!Delicious hot pot with fresh ingredients. This is such a satisfying experience. Staffs are helpful and the restaurant was playing a collection of Hong Kong Cantopop songs throughout the whole night. One thing that can be improved is, while gas stoves are a powerful choice for hot pot, it will be better if induction cookers are available. Because simmering can bring in a better taste for some dishes.

Mui Kee Chicken Pot
Mui Kee Chicken Pot has been in business for quite some time. They have recently renovated for this fresh look. This meal costs us approximately $25 per person, but I think their food quality is there. I would recommend Mui Kee Chicken Pot to people who enjoy heavily flavoured food.

If you enjoy being upsold and refusing to have your order taken to the kitchen multiple times until you order more items especially on the weekend, this is the spot for you, unless you’re lucky enough to not have the lady described below as your waitress. It’s possible she might be part owner as well which would explain it. Also, service is terrible, they’ll bring you hot tea despite asking for cold water, then bring you hot water and walk away, the majority of them have this upset look on their face and attitude as if you owe them a million bucks, only exception was this one kind older lady maybe in her 50s who came by once to help bring some utensils to eat with.I’ve been here at least 3 times per year for the last 5 years straight, and this is the first time tonight this has ever happened to me, I’ve even had the same lady described below take my order in the past without any refusal, guess times sure are tough, you’re the boss, or if you aren’t the boss you’re being told to upsell specific clients who look like they’ll fall for it.Came in, waited 40minutes without a reservation on Sunday which makes sense, was told by one waitress to sit at the table on the left while another waitress a minute later tells us that we should be sitting at another table on the right and that we’re in the wrong spot. This is fine considering it’s busy, unfortunately the 40s-50s lady w short hair who manages reservations and the wait list at the front wouldn’t allow my girlfriend (who can barely eat half a bowl of rice on her own) and I to place our order until we added more items, her reasoning was that “the food portion you’ve ordered isn’t enough” multiple times. Initially ordered the small signature chicken pot with 1 rice, fried squid tentacles, and added potato to it. She came by and said “that’s not enough, you’ll need more” and walked away, refusing to take the order. Added fish tofu, and tried to place my order again; she said “that’s still not enough” and walked away again. Finally added the sweet buns with condensed milk and had to call over a different colleague who finally took the order to the kitchen without any further questions.I gave her the benefit of the doubt because I thought she truly meant well and that the portion sizes weren’t enough for us to enjoy a meal without leftovers, maybe due to “covid/inflation/rising grocery prices”. As you can see in the posted photos once the food came, the portion sizes are somewhat reasonable, which means she obviously upsold us just because she either wanted a larger tip or if she’s part owner, because the restaurant is struggling. It’s still not a honest way to do business with your repeat customers just because they’ve never ordered that one specific dish before. After paying, I got up and looked around, more than half the tables with 2 people only ordered the same sized small pot with 1 side dish add on at most, and they all received their orders. Absolutely disgusting behaviour to force some of your customers to order more because you think they’re stupid enough to fall for “smaller portions” as an excuse. Also, fried squid tentacles aren’t as good as before from last year, the typical crunch you would get isn’t there anymore, it’s soggy now arriving. The chicken pot is average but contains quite a bit of bone inside, for $40 for the small or $52 for the large there are much better alternatives both on Alexandra and in other parts of Richmond such as the Walmart Plaza or between Lansdowne or Richmond Centre. Service is terrible as others have mentioned unless you’re lucky enough to go during slow hours or you meet that one specific older lady who at least smiles and tries to make the dining experience a bit better, nobody goes to Asian restaurants for service but if you’re treated like dirt why would you spend money there? The taste isn’t worth the price point or service you receive. Very disappointed.TLDR: Non existent service as others have mentioned, forced up selling, prices have gone up taste just isn’t the same anymore unless you go during non peak hours.

Food is good, servers are quick, and best to come on a weeknight when not too busy. Seafood is always live and fresh. A fun place for group dinners.

The signature chicken hotpot has great price to quality ratio. The wait is a bit long even if I reserved the table in advance ( 2 days ago).I think the taste is good and meets my expectations (not too spicy with my choice of low spice level), and they convert the pot into hotpot after you finish the chicken meat which is nice.Servers are actually pretty friendly and responsive. Might come back again!
