Cummer Avenue United Church

Wonderful experience of a sharing, friendly and inclusive church.

Was there for Doors Open and you will not find a nicer group of people. Everyone was very warm and friendly and it was a real pleasure being surrounded by good people.The church was recently renovated and reopened in the beginning of May 2023. The interior design is very contemporary and is a lot brighter and spacious than what people are normally accustomed to when we think of churches. The floors are all hardwood including the basement and the kitchen is massive with the latest and greatest appliances.The Casavant pipe organ has been moved to the other side of the building and upgraded. It was built in 1930 and comprise of 2000 pipes. A new cool feature will be the ability to play the organ using software. I was told it can be controlled remotely using a WiFi console. Unfortunately during my visit the organ was still being worked on but they anticipate it being up and running in July.Really cool bit of history that will tickle your mind was that Lester B. Pearson was the son of one of the ministers that practiced at the church. He was born in the Newtonbrook Methodist Church parsonage. There is a historical plaque on the front lawn of the church. Lester B. Pearson was the Prime Minister of Canada, won the Nobel peace prize, helped in the creation of the Canadian national flag and implemented Old Age Pension and medical care. I wasn't kidding when I said the people are really nice there.The church is welcoming to all. One of the wood carvings shows Jesus surround by people of ages and ethnicities. Definitely visit the church when you are close by. You will love what they've done the place.Sunday service is at 10AM and everyone is welcome. Office hours are 8:30am to 4:30pm throughout the week.

Great place

Every Wednesday Drop-In from 10am to 2pm. From 10 am to 12 pm is a breakfast part of it and from 12 to 2 is a full 3- course meal.Staff is great and consists of mostly volunteers from congregation. Food is very good there as well as atmosphere. Food is cooked right there and in summer time they use vegetables grown in their beautiful garden in the back of the church.

This church is currently undergoing renovations. They had a breakfast and lunch program for people in need. They also had Toronto Public health mobile dental bus that would visit . Outreach workers and a place to take a nap for the street involved people.

Very modern and clean.Attended a mini conference.
