Sushi Shop The Core
It was our second time ordering the mango sushi rolls here. We really enjoyed them the first time. But we felt it wasn't as fresh compared to our first visit. Overall, it was good enough, but it is expensive and not very satisfying ($8 for 5 piece roll).

No no no. I’m here to clear up the one star reviews. I’ve had a lot of sushi in my day. I was expecting some low quality mush when I ordered only to receive a restaurant quality roll. For my taste preference it was perfectly made. A shame such talent is being wasted in a mall chain….

I absolutely love the poke bowls! The sushi burrito was great too but I’d rather eat it at home since it could get quite messy. Sometimes, some of their items aren’t available (like the karaage chicken last time I checked) but that’s understandable. Anyways, if you are craving Japanese cuisine and a quick meal, this would definitely be a go-to!

This review is written as a direct comparison to Sushi Shop Deerfoort MeadowsPortions were served as predominantly rice. For the veggie bowl I counted 4 pieces of pepper, 2 pieces of cucumber, 7 edamame beans a dash of avocado and a splash of mayo.It was marginally better for the chicken at a glance (I don't eat it), but just expensive rice for the substance.Flavor and freshness ok, but inadequate on the whole as I was expecting what I get at Deerfoot branch.Deefoot's offerings on same menu are delicious and everyone I have had try it has loved it.I complained and got 50% of the one dish and was left wanting for an actual lunch.Please retrain your staff so the chain offers like for like when ordering dishes.

The worst sushi. Taste is off, expensive, EXTREMELY sweet soya sauce- probably what I disliked the most. The sushi was too warm, I had asked for the rolls with spicy sauce and they didn’t add any. Also made me really gassy for the rest of the day… I’ve never had sushi that has done that. Definitely will not return.

I got the karaage bowl. It was good! It was filling and with decent-quality chicken and the thing I liked best was that the accompanying spicy mayo was actually SPICY. Is it on the level of Red's Japa Cafe? No, but for food court sushi, this is very respectable.

I've rated many sushi places and I don't understand the low ranking of this branch!I read the bad reviews on here, but they don't make any sense (most of them anyway).Well here's my review:The server was very kind, smiling and handing me everything with both hands (a Japanese tradition).The space is small, and they make your rolls in front of you. They have a machine that presses rice, so I don't understand the reviews that mention stale/cold prepared rice. The chef wears gloves, he's not the cashier who deals with menus, and he cleaned his gloves, the table, and the used utensils after making each roll.The food was very well presented (check pictures), and it was absolutely delicious! I can actually confidently say that this is one of the best I've had in Calgary.The Soy sauce they provide is indeed sweet, but I prefer it this way, so that's a matter of preference.On the down side, the portion is a bit small compared to what you pay, but since it's a food court fast food chain, I think that's to be expected anyway.
