Karate can be intimidating at first, but at its best can also shape the body, mind and hearts of its students. This is, remarkably, what is offered here through the personal and expert instruction of Shihan Jeff Barrett and his very capable staff. With decades of experience in karate and a bachelor's in education, Jeff is approachable, personable and lives what he teaches. He contributes his expertise to every class, with a range of students from 3 years of age to retirement all benefitting immensely from his experience and common touch. The ciricuulum focuses on fitness, improvement in mental stamina and a healthy balance. It is welcoming for those wishing to start and to its credit has built a great group of senior students in its relatively short time in the area. The Northern Karate program is a large organization in the GTA with a balanced approach to martial arts that favours inclusiveness, personal best and a diversity of abilities over more rigid traditional models. The community has embraced the dojo and rgua approach with many, many children's classes available, which are well attended. Children still make up most of the dojo's students and are a tribute to how approachable this style of karate is and how it embraces fun at its core. It has also proven popular and effective for adults of any fitness level to challenge themselves. The balance of mental and physical challenges can keep interest for years with always more of the art to learn. Under the tuitelege here, both kids and adults continue to learn important lessons about being better and healthier people.

Both our kids aged 6 & 8 now, have gone here for several years. Sensei Jeff has the perfect blend of funny and stern when he needs to be. The kids respect him and his staff. They've also provided many virtual classes at home during the pandemic and out. All kids we know that go here love it.

Great family activity!! Has really benefited the whole family's conditioning and improving our mind, body, and spirit! Especially with knowledgeable and patient shihan and senseis. We look forward to going to our classes!!

My daughter loves it. Its an event for anyone that joins her. Wish class was a little longer if I'm honest. Its great time with your child.

My son started here when he was 5, he has been going twice a year for about 8 months, he's 6 now. Jeff, who runs the dojo is is a great person to deal with, he and the other instructors are fantastic, they manage to keep it fun for the kids while at the same time instilling discipline and there's an excellent ratio of instructors to students. The classes have really helped to improve my son's confidence and his skills are really coming along, and most importantly he really enjoys it and looks forward to the classes.

My oldest started classes here about 4 years ago, and has enjoyed working his way through the belt levels. He can't wait to earn his black belt! Focus and attention can be a struggle for him, but in Jeff's classes, he's laser focused. I've watched my son's confidence and leadership develop under NKS High Park's instruction.My youngest wanted to do karate like his big brother, so now he takes classes too, and has tons of fun moving his body, learning new techniques, and making new friends. Karate summer camp is the highlight of his year!Not to be outdone, I had to join classes myself so I could defend myself against my budding ninjas. I wasn't sure if I could do it or be coordinated enough to participate in classes well, but Jeff has made me feel more than welcome and shown me that I am capable of much more than I would ever have thought. I've got a goal to earn my black belt by the time I'm 40 (and maybe even before my oldest) -- wish me luck!If you're considering enrolling yourself or your child in martial arts, NKS High Park school is the place to be! The instructors are fantastic, the program is inclusive, and with the ability to attend classes 5 days a week, it's an incredible value for training your physical and mental health.
