Maxi Hull Saint-Joseph

The underground parking makes it an accessible grocery in the heart of Gatineau (Hull). Good selection and very competitive prices. The no name and president choice brands will surprise you with their products on par with big named brands.

It's a basic grocery store. The prices are modest, but the produce is hit or miss! They also really don't like it when you pay cash or if you speak English. Not very pleasant, but when you need food it isn't a bad place to shop.

Today my wife and I went (Monday) after lunch to have a less crowdy shopping experience. Everything was nice: the cashier was new (old lady) and she checked out all our products, despite having some issues with a couple of codes. But as soon as we were leaving the main door, an alarm started chimming, so a young guy come (Alex if I recall well) and asked for the receipt, and started to dig into our bags searching for something. I showed him my dissapointing, telling him that this is a system malfunction, as we paid in full our $150+ cart. No way, he continued searching our bags outside the store, and we were blocking the exit of other clients. I told him this was OUTRAGEOUS. It is sad to see than the once good Maxi, nowadays have some people in this store who likes to HUMILIATE clients. I had another sour experience from our recent past: The new cashier didn't accept our discount coupon from Walmart from my smartphone, he wanted to see the printed paper. Go figure out... Our businesses and governments are quite effective in destroying all that used to work more or less well... And nobody cares!

Overall, the pricing is very reasonable. Most of the fruits and vegetables don't seem to last more than a few days, but the rest of the store is good. One thing I really like about this place is that they are picky with pricing. If an item is marked wrong, they honor by giving $10 off the retail price. Sometimes, the item is free based on the price of the item.

Love this Maxi. Excellent prices- and times you can find an absolute deal (2L coke zero at around $1.30, etc).Good staff and a big layout. Easy to find everything. Quality store with good produce too.

Good place for groceries but things are getting expensive ,the place is crowded on the weekends,so avoid going there on weekends, perfect day is Monday or Tuesday, I hate when they check receipts when people are exiting they r wasting people's time, overall a good place

This store is generally a clean store, however, the section where you return your bottles for refunds in the machines, is extremely dirty and sticky! It seems to be a forgotten section of the store.Also the last time I bought a hot BBQ chicken, the top of the plastic container was not holding. It seems they have changed the container that holds these hot chickens. Also one of the chicken legs were missing!! I am not joking, the thread that was holding the chicken together had been moved.Now, I could have gone back and returned the chicken but did not bother. Knowing the chicken had been tampered with, I just threw it out.Will not be buying ready-to-eat meals from this store anymore.

Amazing location. They have very friendly staff and the environment is refreshing. The produce selection is vast, and the prices are very modest. Not the best choices for meat, but you get what you pay for. The alcohol that they sell is surprisingly cheap, and again, they have a pretty sizeable collection. You can find a can collecter and a coinstar on site as well. It's the only store I go to at the moment.
