Terribly unprofessional and totally incompetent. As a counsellor for children of a marriage breakdown, he probably caused more harm than good. He believed without question all the fiction and untruths told to him about their father and totally missed all of the obvious coaching and spoonfed answers from the children.A complaint was then made to The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers, alleging several breaches of professional standards, misconduct and gross incompetence. His response was a litany of falsehoods. Rather than acknowledging any responsibility for his actions, he instead blamed it all on the father.This man is not someone you can trust when it comes to counselling children effectively.

I have had a couple of my children work with Garry, with very complex needs. His work helped to hold my children accountable for them-self as well as me. Both are doing well now. He is down to earth which some may feel is unprofessional however he connected with my children instantly because of it. He is blunt, honest and sometimes tells you what you don’t want to hear. Which is all apart of healing.

I have known Gary Brooks as a fellow professional social worker and therapist for close to thirty years. I am fortunate to have been mentored by him as well as working together for twelve years on the Community Support Team. I continue to refer people to him for professional assistance as, not only am I confident in his therapeutic and social work capabilities, Gary is an empathetic and conscientious counsellor, friend and family man.

Gary did not provide my family with a safe and therapeutic environment. He completely ignored serious mental health issues and acted based on his own bias. I would never recommend Gary to anyone since I believe he endangered the mental and physical health of my family. Please find someone more prepared to work through complex family needs and dynamics.
