BAAN LAO FINE THAI CUISINE
Exceeded all our expectations especially to celebrate a special birthday surprise. We were welcomed into the beautiful waterfront setting of the restaurant" home of the head chef Nutcha and treated like royalty with white glove service. What a sparkling gem including some special paintings. Each course was breathtaking

Atmosphere spacious and relaxing. Harbour view. Romantic. Recommend trying the tea pairing with your choice of dinner menu. Fantastic teas, unlike any I have tried before. Cocktails are also exceptional (they make a feisty, well-balanced Mai Tai). Favourite dish was the Mangrove Black Tiger Prawn Phat Thai". The lovely Chef Nutcha came to greet us after our meal which was a welcome touch. An artist's dedication to detail throughout our experience. Expensive

I cannot explain in words how divine the experience was. You might think why the menu is expensive but it is worth every penny you pay. From the moment you walk into the restaurant, the customer service provided from the workers is impeccable to the dishes you taste are thoughtful and complex. I really recommend everyone who is even thinking about this restaurant, to give it a try. I don’t think you will find a well-rounded restaurant in Greater Vancouver than Baan Lao.Thank you to all the staff and head chef for making my Birthday a memorable one this year!1000/10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

BAAN LAO FINE THAI CUISINE
Best Dining Experience in the lower mainland. I am not sure if the reviewers from Michelin even knew of this place but it is truly deserving of a star. The service was by far the best I have seen. Right from the beginning, the greeting at the door to the fine attention to detail at the table, our servers were attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. James was our main server and clearly explained each dish and the chef's thought process behind the creativity and flavors that gave life to each course. The chef was not only thoughtful in the creation of each dish but also was mindful of sustainability, waste, and environmental considerations. She also chose ingredients that were imported from her homeland that made each dish authentic to its truest form. The complexities in the flavors and presentations were not only pleasing to the palate but also to the eyes. This is by far the best Thai restaurant in the lower mainland if not the country. I have reviewed a number of restaurants but this is definitely a top 3 restaurant in BC.

Baan Lao was a truly exquisite experience — a one of kind restaurant offering a stimulating experience for all your senses. There is an incredible amount of thoughtfulness from Chef Nutcha and her team from the care that they exude for their guests, the decor that was selected for the restaurant, to the way the dishes are plated and served. The ambience is perfect for when you want to have an intimate dinner with a loved one or a sense of privacy. There is only a finite number of reservations available in a month so that Chef Nutcha and her team are able to be attentive to their valued guests. Chef Nutcha herself makes the experience personable and speaks to every guest (and prepares sauce tableside). It was truly fascinating to hear where the ingredients were sourced from and how everything was so freshly prepared. Every single thing on your plate down to the most minuscule drop of sauce has a purpose and adds to the medley of flavours. The mains: the Lobster Phat Thai (the lobster being flown in from Nova Scotia on the morning of the day it was served!!), Hokkaido Scallop Coconut Galangal Soup and Water Buffalo Tenderloin Massaman Curry were such delights. Not only were the dishes beautifully plated, with a single bite you can tell there are so many different spices and components. The cocktails are delicious and the tea pairings went perfectly with our dishes. As a big dessert person, “Chef Nutcha’s Childhood Memories” was such a playful dish to eat! From the “dirt” sprinkled on the plate to the hand-rolled chocolate tree, cotton candy leaves and sesame mousse “rock”, it was unlike anything I have had before. It was truly a pleasure to chat with Chef Nutcha and her team and to hear about every thought and step leading to the plate you are served.Truly a gem — I don’t think that there is a single restaurant in British Columbia that can match up to the exemplary hospitality and attention to detail of Baan Lao. I could go on and on, but I really urge you to give this restaurant a try and see for yourself!Thank you so much again to Chef Nutcha and her wonderful team for making my boyfriend’s birthday celebration so memorable!!

Chef creates an incredibly comforting dining experience where I could have eaten more of every course. We came for the bi-monthly special courses meal which was a true elevation of the normal menu featuring Canadian water buffalo and lobster. My favorite dishes were the ones with Chef’s anchovy sauce which is nothing short of perfection. It’s used in many of the appetizers, but it brings a different flavor each time. My favorite usage has to be the Pomelo Prawn and Coconut Salad.Their drinks menu is beyond belief. We had to try some of the cocktails and Thai milk tea even with the drink pairings. I’d recommend asking for something you’d like; they’ll give a great recommendation!I would hate to spoil the stories of the food, but you should know that Chef is brave and deeply caring. It shows through her food and the stories that the staff have to say about her.The intention with the space is perfect. They even use snakeskin plants everywhere to lighten the energy. You can tell every plant is happy and energized in there. And every dish, silverware, and glass has a specific purpose.I came for my birthday and the service was above and beyond. I was lucky enough that Chef’s friend made me a beautiful hand crafted card. Their consideration of every customer is really that of family here.Overall, I was touched by this restaurant and want to thank everyone in the kitchen and on the floor for such a relaxing vibe. I cried tears of peace by the end of the meal.

Bright environment and prestigious atmosphere. Staffs are welcomed and well knowledge about every dishes. Remarkable service even better than dining service from the hotel in downtown. Food is fantastic. Most of the ingredients are organic. Especially the rice, which grows from chef’s family homeland. Can’t believe having an authentic taste and ingredients from Thailand in Vancouver! For those whose love Thai food, it is a paradise. Such a hidden gem in Richmond!

The best Thai food in North America bar none!We have been to Ugly Baby in NYC, Lotus of Siam in LV, Kin Khao in SF, and Pichai in Montreal, and we tried Maenam, Baan Lao far exceeds our expectation and is in a different class. All the above mentioned are served family style, except Baan Lao which is individually, and beautifully platted. The service was impeccable and the space was charming and lovely. We were surprised they were not on Canada’s 100 list. My wife and I both agreed that Baan Lao deserves two Michelin stars. The detailed to attention from the service to the platting to the taste of the fresh ingredients grown in chef’s garden and sourced directly from local farms, and the delicious fish sauce fermented for two years was incomparable. We can’t wait to return to visit Baan Lao to experience their Signature menu in July, and their new menu.We loved all the dishes. The pad Thai was out of this world! The fragrant green curry salmon was incredible. We also highly recommend their wine pairing curated by their Master Sommelier, should you desire an excellent wine pairing. Their tea pairing was also amazing. Thank you Chef Nutcha and Baan Lao team for a memorable experience.
