Great experience - we drove out from Waterloo to come here and glad we did! Matthew was so helpful and patient while we worked to find better support with a chin rest. Ended up walking out with much more and high quality products for a very reasonable price. Definitely our go-to for all our violin needs from now on; thanks, Matthew!

My online research brought me to luthier Matthew Schmidt at Violin Atelier Schmidt and I was not disappointed. In fact, my expectations were exceeded. I needed some restoration work done on my violin and wanted to leave it with somebody who had experience, passion, and professionalism in spades. Matthew fit the bill. He met with me in person, carefully examined my violin, and took the time to explain what he thought was necessary to do and why; but never pushed. He gave me what genuinely felt like honest advice. His bright, open workshop/studio was welcoming and clean. Given his own busy work schedule, he did his best to accommodate my schedule, which accommodation was greatly appreciated since I had to come from out of town to meet him. He made himself accessible, keeping in touch with me by phone, text or email, whichever I preferred. And he kept his word on the timeframe to complete the work. I definitely recommend luthier Matthew Schmidt!

Matthew Schmidt was referred to me by one of his industry colleagues who lives elsewhere in Ontario and I am absolutely pleased that I took the opportunity to drive to London to visit Violin Atelier Schmidt. As the size of stringed instruments get larger they become more susceptible to scratches and dents. I took a fine doublebass to Matthew to get varnish abrasions repaired. Matthew matched the existing varnish perfectly and polished the instrument beautifully thereby restoring a splendid appearance to this wonderful instrument. After a lengthy discussion and after seeing his workmanship, I have come to trust Matthew's analysis and advice regarding actions required to maintain and repair an instrument. I look forward to bringing more work to Violin Atelier Schmidt as the occasion arises. Again, many thanks Matthew!
