There are such a diverse group of people, therefore the ministry is always relevant.

Went today for the first time by invitation.Had a very warm welcome and went and sat with everyone, some of which are regulars and others from all over the world.A very different calming experience from any Religious service I have ever attended. The service is silent and reflective, but anyone who wishes to say anything is welcome to address the Friends"as long as it is relevant of course. These speeches are called "Ministries"at the end of the service the notices are read out. There are light Refreshments afterwards and everyone is very friendly and approachable. The "Friends"do so much good work in the local community

A really interesting building with a fascinating history. I like the Quakers. I like their thoughtfulness, their liberal attitudes to important social, ethical and political issues, their dedication to much needed social reform, their openness to debate and of course their dedication to pacifism as exemplified by the Fox peace testimony picture housed in the reception of the meeting house. There is a sense in which all are welcome (and indeed they are) to join the silence and to let their mind breathe away from the constant bustle of the surrounding west end. The fair trade tea and coffee and lively chat after the meeting is also most welcome. Bless you friends one and all!

This seemed like a beautiful place - a place of quiet and a refuge in busy London, I thought, every time I walked by, as I also knew a bit about the efforts of the Quaker community working for peace, the environment and justice and had experienced such kindness at the Hampstead Quakers. However, I had a terrible encounter here. Also being an activist, after attending a march and rally, I had been directed by another large faith organisation to gather here after the event. I went looking for fellowship with other people of faith campaigning for change, just a place of peace after a day's work, to gather and chat. I was greeted with 2 bouncers at the door, mistrust and discrimination. I was treated quite rudely, making me feel uncomfortable and confused, until a third member of the organisation stepped forward to invite me in. However, she too treated me as though I was a tourist and would speak to me only about how to join the Quakers, as if recruiting for a cult. She seemed genuinely disappointed that I did not accept a tea or use of toilets, as if she would have been happier had I been in their debt. A third more senior person did exactly the same. It was a terrible experience. Obviously, the organisations must not have communicated to each other about the fact that various people of faith had been invited to gather after the event, but nevertheless their attitude was discriminatory and impolite. Very disappointing, as I can never walk by feeling the same way again.

Omg! What a beautiful energy this place has! Historic. The library has a glass ceiling. So many things one can say about glass ceilings, but this room built in the 1950's after it was bombed in the war, is one ceiling to preserve.
